London-based fintech startup Quartz has raised £2.75 million in pre-seed funding to build an AI-powered wealth guidance platform that brings users' pensions, savings, investments and other financial accounts into one place.

The round was led by Daphni, with participation from Outward VC and K Fund. Angel investors include Philippe Gelis, co-founder of Kantox, and Gilles BianRosa, who previously served as chief product officer at N26 and Kraken.

Founded in 2025 by former Revolut and N26 employees André Silva and Mateus Mesquita Alves, Quartz is preparing to launch an invitation-only waitlist through the App Store and Google Play.

Bringing Wealth Management Into One App

Quartz is designed to connect users' financial accounts, including pensions, ISAs, savings and investment accounts.

The platform is intended to give consumers a consolidated view of their finances while helping them understand their portfolio, explore diversification and identify potential opportunities to improve tax efficiency.

At the centre of the experience is Charlie, Quartz's conversational AI assistant, which founder André Silva describes as a "personal banker."

Charlie provides users with personalized context around their financial position and highlights developments that may be relevant to their portfolio.

The company plans to eventually expand the assistant's capabilities to allow users to take actions through their connected financial accounts, subject to obtaining the required regulatory permissions.

Building Within the UK Regulatory Framework

Quartz currently operates under authorization from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority as an account information service provider.

This allows the company to aggregate financial information and provide insights based on users' data. However, Quartz does not currently hold a licence to provide regulated financial advice.

The distinction is central to the company's current product strategy.

Quartz intends to provide financial guidance and information today while pursuing additional regulatory permissions that could allow it to offer more comprehensive advice and eventually execute financial actions for users.

Designing AI Around Financial Accuracy

Giving an AI system access to sensitive financial information introduces significant accuracy and reliability challenges.

Quartz says its AI does not perform financial calculations itself. Instead, dedicated tools conduct financial ratio calculations, with the AI retrieving and presenting the resulting information.

The platform uses models from Anthropic and OpenAI and tracks users' financial goals and risk profiles.

Unclear cases can also be escalated to human reviewers. Quartz says the system has undergone approximately a year of human review and training as the company has developed its financial guidance infrastructure.

Founded by Former Revolut and N26 Executives

Quartz was founded by André Silva and Mateus Mesquita Alves in 2025.

Silva previously led global expansion at Revolut, while Mesquita Alves worked on investment products at N26.

The 10-person team is distributed across London, Barcelona and Porto, with technology operations in Portugal and Spain and regulatory operations based in London.

The founders believe the platform can serve consumers who want more personalized financial support without immediately requiring a traditional face-to-face financial adviser.

Competing in a Growing WealthTech Market

Quartz is entering a financial technology market that already includes budgeting applications, neobanks and digital investment platforms.

The company sees independent financial advisers as a significant part of the competitive landscape, while positioning itself differently from budgeting apps such as Emma and Cleo and financial platforms such as Revolut and eToro.

Other startups are also applying AI to wealth management. Nevis, founded by former Revolut employees, has raised funding to provide AI tools for financial advisers, while Clove is pursuing a model involving regulated human advisers.

Quartz is instead pursuing a direct-to-consumer approach, starting with financial aggregation and guidance while working toward broader regulatory permissions.

£2.75M to Build the Next Stage

The new £2.75 million pre-seed funding will support Quartz as it develops its AI wealth platform, expands its team and prepares for its consumer launch.

The company's longer-term roadmap involves moving from financial guidance and portfolio insights toward regulated financial advice and, eventually, the ability to execute actions on behalf of users.

For Quartz, the challenge is not simply building an AI assistant that can understand financial information. It is building a system that can provide useful personalized guidance while operating within the regulatory and trust requirements of wealth management.
