Generative media infrastructure startup fal has raised $1.3 billion in a new funding round at a $16 billion valuation, as demand for AI-generated images, videos and audio drives the need for greater computing capacity.
The Series F round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from Nvidia, Sound Ventures, HOF Capital and T. Rowe Price. Nvidia joined as a strategic investor. The funding will support additional computing infrastructure and hiring as the company expands beyond its current workforce of 185 employees.
Founded in 2021, fal provides a cloud platform that allows developers to run image, video and audio generation models through a single application programming interface (API). Its infrastructure is used by entertainment studios, advertising agencies and game developers to bring generative AI applications into production.
Building infrastructure for generative media
Fal operates as an inference platform for generative AI models, providing developers with access to different image, video and audio generation models through a unified API.
Rather than requiring customers to manage separate infrastructure for each model, the platform provides a common interface for running generative media workloads.
The company's customers include entertainment studios, advertising agencies and game developers using these models in production environments.
Beyond inference infrastructure, fal also has an in-house research team that works on post-training selected models to improve their execution speed. Over the past year, much of this work has focused on video generation models, in collaboration with both open-source and closed-source model developers.
These partnerships include licensing arrangements and revenue-sharing agreements, according to Bloomberg's reporting.
Demand pushes computing capacity expansion
Fal co-founder and CEO Burkay Gur said demand for the platform increased sharply, creating pressure on the company's available computing resources.
Gur told Bloomberg that the company reached a point during the summer when it could not serve all customer demand and had to introduce rate limits.
The latest funding will help fal secure additional computing capacity and expand its team to meet growing usage.
The company currently employs approximately 185 people. Its immediate priorities include scaling infrastructure and hiring, while training a proprietary foundation model is not part of its near-term plans.
Founders and investor backing
Fal was founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur and Gorkem Yurtseven.
Gur previously led machine learning work at Coinbase and held an engineering role at Oracle. Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Yurtseven previously worked as a developer at Amazon.
The Series F round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners. Its partner Talia Goldberg will join the board of Features & Labels Inc., the formal corporate name associated with fal.
Other investors include Nvidia, Sound Ventures, HOF Capital and T. Rowe Price Group.
The latest announcement also brought attention to the company's earlier Series E funding round, which was raised in April 2026. Led by Sequoia Capital, that round brought in $350 million at an $8 billion valuation, according to Bloomberg.
Fal said the Series E and Series F rounds together account for $1.65 billion in funding.
Valuation doubles as generative AI inference demand grows
Fal's latest valuation of $16 billion represents a doubling from the $8 billion valuation reported for its April Series E round.
The company previously raised $140 million in December 2025 at a reported valuation of $4.5 billion. Including its latest funding, investors have now committed more than $1.9 billion to the business.
According to a person familiar with the company's finances cited by Bloomberg, fal's annualised revenue surpassed $800 million earlier in 2026.
Its valuation places it close to rival inference infrastructure provider Fireworks AI, which reportedly raised $1.5 billion at a $17.5 billion valuation in July 2026.
However, the sector faces a significant infrastructure challenge. Computing resources are expensive to purchase and operate, putting pressure on gross margins across AI inference businesses, according to people familiar with the sector cited by TechCrunch.
For fal, the next phase will involve expanding computing capacity, supporting more customers and improving the efficiency of generative media workloads as adoption continues to grow.
