London-based high-frequency trading and market-making firm LO:TECH has raised $12 million in a Series A funding round led by MMC. The company plans to use the capital to expand its operations in the United States and Asia as trading activity increasingly moves towards always-on markets, tokenised assets and onchain financial infrastructure.
The round also included participation from existing investors Faction and 13 Books Capital, alongside new investor Atka. The funding follows the company's $5 million seed round in August 2025.
Founded by Tim Meggs, Marcus Horsley and Alex Williams, LO:TECH develops trading infrastructure designed to operate across traditional financial markets and digital asset venues that remain active around the clock.
Building trading infrastructure for markets that never close
LO:TECH operates as a high-frequency trading firm, executing tens of thousands of trades per second while providing liquidity to financial markets. Market makers help ensure that buyers and sellers can trade without waiting for another participant to appear on the opposite side of a transaction.
The company initially built its business around proprietary trading using its own capital. It has since expanded into additional services, including market data distribution and trading technology for clients seeking liquidity across new trading venues and digital tokens.
The company now operates across three product lines: proprietary trading, market data distribution and designated market-making services. It is also launching execution services covering traditional markets, digital assets and prediction markets.
According to co-founder and CTO Marcus Horsley, the company was established to address the limitations of financial infrastructure designed around conventional exchange hours.
Traditional markets have historically operated within fixed trading sessions, while digital asset markets and emerging onchain platforms can remain active continuously. LO:TECH aims to provide the technology needed to support trading across these different environments.
From an industry disruption to a new trading opportunity
LO:TECH's founding story is connected to the disruption caused by the collapse of FTX in 2022.
Horsley and his future co-founders had worked at a trading firm that subsequently exited digital assets following the collapse. Rather than moving to another employer, they decided to establish their own company.
Horsley brings experience in quantitative research and systematic trading, alongside a PhD in mathematics. The founding team includes Tim Meggs, Marcus Horsley and Alex Williams.
The company has since expanded its client base and product offering. It now works with more than 50 clients, including publicly listed companies.
LO:TECH reported that its revenue has tripled since August 2025, while its workforce has doubled. The company also reported two years of triple-digit revenue growth, despite operating with a team of fewer than 20 people.
Its activity in prediction markets is another part of its expansion. In July 2026, the company announced that it had received a Kalshi data distributor licence, enabling it to distribute market data from the prediction market platform.
Tokenised assets create opportunities across traditional and digital markets
The growing adoption of tokenised real-world assets is influencing LO:TECH's expansion strategy.
The funding announcement points to a shift in financial markets, where traditional assets such as equities are increasingly being represented and traded through blockchain-based infrastructure.
According to the figures cited in the report, the value of tokenised real-world assets on public blockchains increased from $20.6 billion to $38 billion between June 2025 and June 2026. Tokenised equities also grew from $960 million in March to $3.2 billion by the end of September 2026.
Major financial institutions are exploring this transition. Intercontinental Exchange and OKX, for example, announced a joint venture in June that would allow OKX customers to access tokenised NYSE equities.
For LO:TECH, this development creates an opportunity to apply its trading technology across both digital and conventional financial infrastructure.
The company plans to expand its activity into traditional exchanges, including equities, foreign exchange and commodities. Its technology is designed to support trading across different market environments, including decentralised finance platforms and traditional exchange systems.
Expansion plans target the US and Asia
LO:TECH intends to use the Series A capital to establish a stronger presence in New York and Singapore.
The company sees these markets as important for two reasons. First, having teams operating across different time zones can improve market coverage and risk management for businesses operating around the clock.
Second, the United States and Asia offer opportunities to build relationships with financial institutions, trading venues and token issuers. Establishing local business development and sales teams will help the company address the requirements of clients in those regions.
Despite the expansion, LO:TECH expects to maintain a relatively lean workforce. The company currently employs fewer than 20 people, and Horsley expects to add approximately 10 to 15 employees over the next few years.
Regulatory approval will also be part of its expansion process. LO:TECH intends to obtain the necessary approvals in each market it enters and is currently assessing licensing requirements in the United States.
What the funding means for LO:TECH
The $12 million Series A gives LO:TECH additional capital to expand its trading infrastructure, enter new markets and develop services across traditional and digital financial systems.
The company's strategy reflects a broader shift in financial markets. As trading venues increasingly operate beyond conventional exchange hours and tokenised assets gain institutional attention, market participants need technology that can support continuous trading and liquidity across different asset classes.
With more than 50 clients, reported revenue growth and plans to establish operations in the US and Asia, LO:TECH is positioning itself to serve this evolving market.
However, its international expansion will also depend on regulatory approvals and its ability to compete with established trading firms and infrastructure providers.
