Moonshot AI Secures $3.5 Billion in Funding

Chinese artificial intelligence startup Moonshot AI has raised $3.5 billion in a new funding round, significantly exceeding its original fundraising target of $1 billion to $2 billion.

According to the report, the funding round values the company at $35 billion.

One of the key investors is China's National AI Industry Investment Fund, which previously backed AI startup DeepSeek during its early funding stages.

Strong Demand Following Kimi K3 Launch

Moonshot AI's latest fundraising comes after the launch of its open-weight AI model Kimi K3 earlier this month.

According to the report, Kimi K3 has been evaluated as delivering performance comparable to the latest AI models from Anthropic and OpenAI.

The model's release has strengthened Moonshot AI's position within China's rapidly growing AI ecosystem and contributed to increased market attention toward AI and semiconductor companies.

Preparing for a Hong Kong IPO

Following the successful funding round, Moonshot AI is reportedly engaging with potential investors for its next financing round, targeting a $50 billion valuation.

The company is also planning a final pre-IPO funding round before pursuing a Hong Kong stock market listing, which could take place as early as this year.

The report notes that Moonshot AI's rapid growth reflects increasing confidence in China's AI industry despite ongoing U.S. export restrictions on advanced semiconductor technologies.
