Berlin-based fintech startup Integral has raised €18 million in Series A funding to expand its AI-powered accounting and tax services for small and medium-sized businesses.
The round was co-led by Mosaic Ventures and Reid Hoffman, with existing investors Cherry Ventures, General Catalyst and Puzzle Ventures also participating.
The latest financing takes Integral's total funding beyond €30 million in less than two years.
Building the Accounting Firm, Not Just the Software
Integral was founded in Berlin in October 2024 by Lukas Zörner and Anil Can Baykal.
Zörner previously co-founded Penta, where he helped grow the company to 50,000 customers, before moving into management of Qonto's German operations following its acquisition of Penta in 2022.
Integral is taking a different approach from traditional accounting software companies.
Rather than selling software to accounting firms, the company operates as a licensed tax advisory firm through Integral Tax GmbH and uses its own technology platform to deliver the services.
AI Agents Handle the Back Office
Integral's AI agents handle tasks including invoice reconciliation, transaction posting, payroll and tax filing.
Qualified professionals review and approve the results, combining automated workflows with human oversight for regulated financial work.
The company says its AI agents now perform full bookkeeping services for more than half of its clients, reducing the time required for those processes from weeks to a few hours.
This model allows Integral to position itself as the service provider rather than simply a technology vendor for accountants.
A Different Approach to Accounting Automation
The model puts Integral in a different position from accounting software platforms such as Pennylane, which provides technology to accounting firms.
It also differs from companies such as Berlin-based Cortea, which provides AI tools to existing auditors.
Integral's approach involves AI agents performing regulated accounting and tax workflows within a licensed advisory firm, with qualified professionals remaining responsible for the final outcomes.
That structure also creates a significant operational challenge: the company needs enough licensed professionals to oversee and approve the work as it scales.
Funding and Acquisition History
Integral previously raised €6.3 million in pre-seed funding in February 2025.
The company also acquired payroll company cleverlohn, bringing its funding total to approximately €12 million by November 2025.
With the new Series A, Integral has now raised more than €30 million.
The latest capital will be used to improve its AI agents across bookkeeping, payroll and tax services while expanding its commercial and engineering teams.
Tackling Germany's Accounting Labor Shortage
Integral is targeting a German market where businesses face both regulatory complexity and shortages of accounting professionals.
The company cites data showing that German SMEs allocate approximately 1.9% of revenue to tax compliance, while 71% of advisory firms report staff shortages.
The European accounting software market was valued at approximately $5.4 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $8.4 billion by 2030, according to the figures cited by Tech Funding News.
Integral is betting that AI can help licensed professionals serve more businesses by automating repetitive accounting and tax workflows.
Expanding AI-Native Professional Services
The company's broader strategy is to use AI not simply to improve existing accounting software, but to rebuild the delivery model of professional financial services.
Reid Hoffman described Integral's approach as using AI agents to extend the reach of licensed professionals, while Mosaic Ventures partner Chandar Lal highlighted labor shortages in accounting, tax and payroll.
With more than €30 million raised in less than two years, Integral is now focused on expanding its AI capabilities and commercial operations while operating within Germany's regulated tax-advisory framework.
