German AI startup Zeit AI has raised €5 million in a seed funding round to expand its autonomous data analytics platform, ZeitMind, and strengthen its position as a European alternative for businesses seeking sovereign AI infrastructure.

The Munich-based company was founded by Leopold von Waldthausen and Marvin Bornstein, both former Palantir employees. The founders spent four years at Palantir, where von Waldthausen led customer relationships across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, while Bornstein worked on early versions of Palantir's AI Platform.

Backed by major investors and high-profile angels

The €5 million seed round includes backing from Y Combinator, Oxford Seed Fund, Sequoia Capital Scout Fund, ACE Ventures and HPVC, a fund associated with SAP co-founder Hasso Plattner.

The round also attracted a notable group of angel investors, including former German finance minister Christian Lindner, 2014 FIFA World Cup winner Mario Götze, Meta board member Charlie Songhurst, Helsing CTO Robert Fink and Schoeller Group's Martin Schoeller.

According to Zeit AI co-founder Leopold von Waldthausen, the company is already quasi-profitable and did not necessarily need to raise external capital. Instead, the funding was primarily intended to formalise relationships with strategic advisers and strengthen the company's long-term positioning.

Building an autonomous AI data analyst

At the centre of Zeit AI's offering is ZeitMind, an autonomous data analyst designed to work directly with a company's raw data.

The platform can clean and integrate data before generating practical business applications, including reports, alerts, inventory optimisation and procurement improvements. The goal is to eliminate the need for a human data engineer for many of these workflows.

A key part of ZeitMind's proposition is auditability. The company says every result can be traced back through the steps taken by the AI agent, with numbers linked to the exact SQL and database code used to generate them.

This approach is particularly relevant for businesses that need confidence in AI-generated analytics and decisions.

A European alternative to Palantir

Zeit AI is targeting mid-sized industrial companies that may find platforms such as Palantir Foundry too expensive or complex to deploy.

The company is also positioning itself around European data sovereignty. Zeit AI operates its infrastructure from German data centres, allowing customers to keep sensitive business data within a European environment.

The company currently works with around 30 enterprise customers across Europe, the US and Brazil. Customers mentioned by the company include Kolbenschmidt, Horsch, Allgaier Agrarhandel, Wahl & Co, Stern Stewart & Co and Jetfly Aviation.

Expanding its team and international presence

Zeit AI has doubled its workforce during 2026, growing from six employees at the beginning of the year to 12. The company plans to add another six employees and expects to open a London office in 2027.

The latest round follows approximately $500,000 in pre-seed funding raised through Y Combinator in 2024.

With the new capital, Zeit AI is betting that sovereign AI, auditable agentic analytics and purpose-built tools for industrial businesses can create a new category between large enterprise platforms and general-purpose AI products.

For Europe, the opportunity extends beyond analytics. As industrial companies increasingly adopt AI for operational decisions, control over data, infrastructure and automated decision-making is becoming a strategic issue.
