Copenhagen-based fintech startup Repodo has raised €8.2 million in pre-seed funding to build an AI-powered audit firm aimed at transforming how statutory audits are conducted across Europe.

The round was led by Hedosophia and Seed Capital, with the latter having previously backed Lunar.

Repodo was founded by former Lunar executives Ken Villum Klausen, Peter Andreasen and Joachim Strøjer Hansen, who previously served as CEO, CFO and CPO respectively. The founding team also includes licensed auditor Anders Houmann.

The company is building its audit operations around AI from the ground up rather than adding AI tools to traditional audit workflows.

Repodo's platform is designed to automate repetitive audit processes including data collection, reconciliation, documentation and transaction analysis.

Licensed auditors will remain responsible for professional judgement and final approval of statutory accounts, keeping human accountability within the regulated audit process.

Repodo is starting in Denmark before expanding across Europe. The company is targeting a European auditing services market valued at $74.32 billion in 2026 and projected to reach $99.73 billion by 2031.

Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC collectively hold around 97% of the European auditing services market, highlighting the scale of the incumbents Repodo is attempting to challenge.

The startup competes with emerging AI audit companies including Berlin-based Cortea and Belgium-based Auditstage, which are also developing technology to automate parts of the audit process.

Repodo differentiates itself by operating as an AI-native audit firm rather than simply selling software to existing audit firms.

The new funding will be used to develop Repodo's technology and team, launch its audit operations in Denmark and prepare for expansion into additional European markets.

The company's larger ambition is to build a European audit firm designed around AI while retaining licensed human auditors for professional judgement, regulatory compliance and final sign-off.
