Netherlands-based fintech startup Tebi has raised €20 million in a Series A funding round. The round was led by Index Ventures.

Founded by Former Adyen Executives

Tebi was founded in 2021 by entrepreneurs, including Arnout Schuijff and Rob Vonk. Both founders previously held leadership roles at Adyen.

The company focuses on building financial tools for independent businesses in the hospitality and retail sectors.

Mobile-First Platform for Business Operations

Tebi offers a mobile-first platform that combines several business functions into a single system. These include reservations, inventory tracking, QR-based ordering, bookkeeping, and integrated point-of-sale and payment solutions.

The company states that its app has been “built on an accounting backbone, providing a single source of truth for users’ financial data”.

Focus on Simplicity and Accessibility

According to Schuijff, the platform aims to simplify business operations through smartphones.

“We’re at a moment in history when you can take your phone and start a business — without dedicated hardware or ugly, complicated software,” he says.

“Taking orders and payments, keeping stock, checking your realtime revenue across multiple locations: it can now all be done with a few taps, lowering the threshold to entrepreneurship considerably, and running on smartphones and commodity hardware setups that don’t cost an arm and a leg.”

Pricing Model and Ownership Structure

Tebi follows a revenue-based pricing model. The app remains free for businesses below a certain revenue threshold. In addition, the company does not charge extra for additional devices, users, or locations.

The startup is also 15% employee-owned. It aims to provide “enterprise-level capabilities to the world of independent businesses with the intuitive experience of a consumer app”.

Expansion Plans Beyond the Netherlands

Tebi plans to use the funding to expand outside the Netherlands. At present, the company operates from its headquarters in Amsterdam and employs around 30 people.

Going forward, it intends to grow its team and extend its product offerings beyond hospitality and retail.
