Industrial47 Raises Rs 85 Cr in First Close of Debut Fund
Industrial47, a pre-seed venture fund founded by Rahul Seth, has raised Rs 85 crore in the first close of its debut fund, which has a target corpus of Rs 150 crore and a green shoe option of Rs 50 crore.
The fund has attracted capital from family offices, industrial groups, founders, and operators, with Swiggy co-founder Nandan Reddy also participating in the first close.
The fund will focus on backing early-stage startups working across frontier technology and strategic infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on technologies linked to India’s national security and technological sovereignty.
Backing India’s Frontier Technology
Industrial47 plans to invest in 15-20 startups with cheque sizes ranging from Rs 2 crore to Rs 10 crore.
Its investment focus spans space systems, defence, energy, maritime intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and other frontier technology sectors.
The fund will evaluate startups not only on their commercial potential but also on whether their technologies can develop into enduring capabilities that India may eventually need to build domestically.
Rahul Seth, Founder and General Partner at Industrial47, said the current global environment has highlighted the importance of technological sovereignty for nations.
He believes India has historically relied heavily on imported solutions and that the next generation of founders can help close the gap between what the country currently has and what it needs to build.
A Fund Focused on Strategic Infrastructure
Industrial47 is positioning itself as an early-stage investor for founders developing technologies in sectors that can require significant technical expertise, long development cycles, and strategic capital.
The fund's portfolio already includes fusion technology startup Pranos Fusion, deeptech drone startup Armory, and autonomous submarine builder RekiSe Marine.
Seth's personal investments also include startups such as Pixxel, Digantara, PierSight, Alt Carbon, Flam, and Anthriq.
The firm's investment approach is centred on identifying technologies that can create new industrial capabilities rather than simply competing within established markets.
Backing Founders at the Pre-Seed Stage
Industrial47 intends to invest early, before startups have achieved widespread market validation.
The fund believes this approach allows it to support founders while they are still developing technologies and building the foundations of businesses in emerging sectors.
Nandan Reddy, Co-founder of Swiggy, highlighted Seth's conviction around India's technological future and his ability to identify companies capable of creating entirely new private-sector opportunities.
With Rs 85 crore secured in its first close, Industrial47 will now look to deploy capital across its targeted sectors and build a portfolio of startups focused on space, defence, energy, maritime intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and other frontier technologies.
The fund's larger ambition is to support founders building technologies that can strengthen India's industrial capabilities and reduce dependence on imported solutions.
