AI coding company Factory has raised $200 million at a $5 billion valuation, more than tripling its valuation in just five months as enterprises increasingly adopt AI agents across software development workflows.

The round was backed by Khosla Ventures, Blackstone and Sequoia Capital, with Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, Altimeter Capital founder Brad Gerstner and former Formula One champion and investor Nico Rosberg also participating as angel investors.

The latest financing brings Factory's total funding to more than $400 million.

From Physics Research to AI Coding

Factory was founded in 2023 by Matan Grinberg and Eno Reyes.

Grinberg was pursuing a physics PhD at the University of California, Berkeley when a cold email exchange with Sequoia Capital partner Shaun Maguire helped convince him to leave academia and pursue AI coding.

Three years later, Factory has developed into one of the rapidly growing companies in the AI coding market.

Building AI "Droids" for Entire Engineering Workflows

Factory's core product is its Droids platform - AI agents designed to handle software engineering tasks across the development lifecycle.

Rather than simply suggesting the next line of code inside an editor, Droids can write, test, review, document and deploy software.

The company's goal is to move from individual AI coding assistance toward AI-powered software factories capable of supporting entire engineering organizations.

Factory says its customers include Nvidia, Adobe, Morgan Stanley, Royal Bank of Canada, Palo Alto Networks and Ernst & Young.

Model-Agnostic AI

Factory's Droids are designed to work across multiple AI model providers.

The platform can switch between models such as Anthropic's Claude and DeepSeek depending on the task.

This model-agnostic approach allows Factory to avoid depending entirely on a single AI model provider and gives its enterprise customers flexibility as the underlying AI market evolves.

Valuation Climbs From $1.5B to $5B

Factory's latest round represents its third major valuation increase in 2026.

The company raised $150 million in a Series C in April at a $1.5 billion valuation. A $120 million extension in July pushed its valuation to $4 billion.

The latest $200 million financing now values Factory at $5 billion.

That means Factory's reported valuation has more than tripled in approximately five months.

Betting on AI-Powered Software Factories

Factory's strategy comes as the AI coding market expands beyond tools designed to assist individual developers.

Companies such as Cognition and Cursor have also attracted significant investor attention, while the broader AI code tools market is projected to grow substantially over the coming years.

Factory is betting that enterprises will increasingly want AI systems capable of managing complete engineering workflows rather than isolated coding tasks.

The latest funding will support the company's continued development and expansion as it seeks to make AI agents a core layer of enterprise software development.
