AI Will Reshape Jobs Rather Than Replace Them, Says Nasscom President

Artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to change how people work instead of eliminating jobs altogether, according to Nasscom President Rajesh Nambiar. He said AI is becoming a productivity tool that will transform job roles across industries while increasing the need for new skills.

Speaking about the impact of AI on India's technology sector, Nambiar said concerns over large-scale job losses are overstated. Instead, he expects organizations to redesign workflows and create new responsibilities as AI adoption grows.

Nambiar noted that AI is helping businesses automate repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency. However, many technology projects still require human expertise, industry knowledge, and regulatory compliance.

As a result, companies will continue to depend on skilled professionals to design, manage, and deploy AI-enabled systems. Rather than replacing employees, AI is likely to support them by handling routine work.

According to Nasscom, the rapid adoption of AI will increase demand for professionals with AI-related skills. Companies are expected to invest more in training their workforce so employees can work alongside AI tools.

The industry body believes that continuous learning will play an important role as businesses introduce AI across software development, customer support, data analysis, and enterprise operations.

Nambiar also said AI presents a significant opportunity for India's technology ecosystem. Indian IT companies can expand their role by helping global enterprises modernize legacy systems, build AI-ready data infrastructure, and deploy AI solutions at scale.

He added that the country's strong engineering talent and growing AI ecosystem position India to benefit from the next phase of technology adoption.
