LITILIT Secures €8 Million to Scale Industrial Femtosecond Laser Technology

Vilnius-based deep tech company LITILIT has secured an €8 million loan from Lithuania's national development bank ILTE to develop FEMODA, a modular femtosecond laser system designed for large-scale industrial manufacturing.

The FEMODA project has a total cost of €10 million, with LITILIT contributing €2 million. The system is being developed to bring high-precision femtosecond laser processing into manufacturing environments where traditional systems can be difficult to deploy.

Developing Modular Femtosecond Lasers

Founded in 2015 by Nikolajus Gavrilinas, Kęstutis Regelskis and Nerijus Rusteika, LITILIT develops ultrafast laser technology based on patents developed with Vilnius' Center for Physical Sciences and Technology.

Femtosecond lasers can perform extremely precise material processing while minimizing heat damage, but their use in industrial environments can require complex cooling, optical systems and controlled conditions.

LITILIT is developing FEMODA to address those challenges through a modular industrial design.

FEMODA's Industrial Applications

FEMODA is designed to deliver up to 1,000W of optical power across 10 to 20 beam channels.

The multiple beam channels are intended to allow femtosecond laser pulses to target different areas of a production line simultaneously.

LITILIT expects the system to support applications including mass production of metal tools, specialized coatings for aircraft and automotive surfaces, and existing laser applications in consumer electronics, displays and semiconductor manufacturing.

Designed for Factory Environments

LITILIT co-founder and CEO Nikolajus Gavrilinas said the system combines control electronics, optics and cooling into a single industrial unit.

Its modular architecture is designed to reduce sensitivity to temperature, humidity and vibration.

The company also says individual modules can be replaced independently, potentially reducing downtime and maintenance requirements compared with replacing an entire laser system.

Building Manufacturing Capacity

Alongside FEMODA, LITILIT is constructing a large laser manufacturing facility in Vilnius.

Construction began in June, with the factory expected to open in fall 2026.

The facility is planned to produce up to 3,000 femtosecond lasers annually, giving LITILIT additional capacity as it targets industrial customers.

Growing the Ultrafast Laser Market

The global ultrafast laser market was valued at approximately $2.86 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach $5.83 billion by 2030, according to the source.

The market remains dominated by established companies including Coherent, TRUMPF and IPG Photonics.

LITILIT is attempting to differentiate through a modular, purpose-built industrial system rather than relying on combinations of existing components.

Long Road to Commercialization

FEMODA is expected to begin shipping no earlier than the second half of 2029.

The long development timeline means LITILIT will need to demonstrate that its technology can perform reliably in real factory environments while competing with established ultrafast laser manufacturers.

The €8 million ILTE loan provides LITILIT with capital to continue developing FEMODA while expanding its manufacturing infrastructure in Lithuania.
