New York-based artificial intelligence startup Flourish has raised $500 million in funding, reaching a valuation of $2.5 billion.
The funding round attracted participation from several investors, including Jeff Bezos, GV, the venture capital arm of Alphabet, Lux Capital, and Catalio Capital Management.
Funding to Support Research and Technology Development
Flourish plans to use the newly raised capital to expand its research capabilities and accelerate product development. The company intends to establish an in-house neuroscience laboratory equipped with high-resolution electron microscopes.
In addition, the startup will focus on developing an AI memory management system designed to improve the efficiency of continuous learning models. The funding will also support the expansion of hardware partnership programs with commercial semiconductor manufacturers.
Building AI Models Inspired by the Human Brain
Founded by Emeka Ugwu, Flourish develops artificial intelligence systems based on biological cortical column structures found in the human brain.
The company says its models are designed to reduce training data requirements while operating efficiently on consumer edge devices. As a result, the technology aims to lower computing power consumption compared to conventional AI systems.
Long-Term Research and Hardware Strategy
Alongside its product development efforts, Flourish has begun discussions related to structural silicon integration. The company has also outlined a five-year deep technology research roadmap to guide future innovation and commercialization initiatives.
The latest funding is expected to strengthen Flourish's research infrastructure as it continues to explore energy-efficient AI architectures and next-generation computing technologies.
