Seattle-based Endurance Energy, a company developing deep-ocean geothermal energy infrastructure, has raised $54 million in a Series A funding round.
The investment was led by Founders Fund, with participation from Ascend, Construct Capital, Felicis Ventures, First Round Capital, Point72 Ventures, Riot Ventures, and Voyager Ventures.
The company plans to use the new capital to expand its marine engineering workforce, advance deep-sea drilling technologies, and support pilot geothermal extraction projects near tectonic plate boundaries.
Founded by CEO Andrew Redd, a former SpaceX engineer who worked on the Dragon and Starship programs, Endurance Energy focuses on technologies designed to capture geothermal energy from deep-ocean environments.
Focus on Deep-Sea Geothermal Development
Endurance Energy develops offshore geothermal extraction platforms and subsea power generation systems. These systems are designed to operate under extreme underwater conditions while accessing heat generated by geological activity beneath the ocean floor.
According to the company, the funding will help accelerate the development of high-temperature drilling capabilities and support the next phase of engineering and field testing.
Expanding Engineering and Pilot Operations
The company also intends to strengthen its marine engineering teams as it prepares for pilot extraction activities. These efforts will focus on locations near oceanic tectonic boundaries, where geothermal energy resources are more accessible.
During its first two years of operation, Endurance Energy completed thermodynamic simulations and conducted early validation work on ocean-floor material designs. The company says these efforts have helped establish the foundation for its future geothermal energy projects.
