Aurelius Systems Secures $40 Million Series A Funding

San Francisco-based defense technology startup Aurelius Systems has raised $40 million in Series A funding to accelerate the development of its AI-powered directed-energy defense platform.

The round was co-led by Draper Associates and KAS Venture Partners, with participation from General Catalyst, Hanwha Asset Management Venture Fund, Outlander, Alumni Ventures, Bravo Victor Venture Capital (BVVC), Detroit Venture Partners, Decisive Point, and other investors.

AI-Powered Counter-Drone Defense

Founded by Michael LaFramboise, who serves as Co-founder & CEO, Aurelius Systems develops autonomous directed-energy platforms that use AI-powered sensing and robotics to detect and neutralize aerial threats.

Its flagship platform, Archimedes, is designed to:

• Autonomously detect aerial threats

• Track and classify targets using AI

• Neutralize hostile drones with directed-energy technology

• Protect military personnel, critical infrastructure, and strategic assets

The platform combines autonomous sensing, robotics, and defensive laser capabilities to support modern counter-drone operations.

Funding to Scale Production and Manufacturing

The new funding will be used to:

• Advance technical development of the Archimedes platform

• Expand manufacturing and production capacity

• Increase vertical integration to reduce supply chain risks

• Strengthen long-term manufacturing resilience

• Accelerate customer deployments

• Expand into new defense and security markets
