Accel Raises $550 Million India Fund

US-based venture capital firm Accel has raised a $550 million early-stage fund for India as part of a $3.5 billion fundraise across four new funds globally.

The new India fund is Accel's ninth early-stage fund for the country and brings the firm's total India fundraising to $1.2 billion over the past 18 months.

The latest fund follows Accel's $650 million early-stage fund for India and Southeast Asia announced in January 2025.

Focus on Early-Stage Indian Startups

The new fund will target startups from pre-seed through Series A across sectors including:

• Artificial intelligence

• Consumer technology

• Fintech

• Manufacturing

• Advanced manufacturing

• Deeptech

Accel said it will focus particularly on AI across platforms, vertical applications, infrastructure, and businesses that combine AI with human involvement.

The firm will also continue investing in consumer, manufacturing, and fintech companies.

India Investment Strategy

Accel said the new fund will support startups targeting the Indian market as well as companies building for global customers from the beginning.

The firm typically provides the first institutional investment in around 80% of the companies it backs.

Its Indian portfolio includes Flipkart, Swiggy, Myntra, Freshworks, BlueStone, Urban Company, Zetwerk, and Infra.Market.

Large Capital Reserves in India

According to sources cited by Entrackr, more than 50% of Accel's eighth India fund remains undeployed.

The latest $550 million fund was also reportedly significantly oversubscribed, while Accel does not expect to begin deploying the new fund during 2026.

The firm is estimated to have around $900 million in dry powder available for investments in India.

Global Fundraising

The $3.5 billion global fundraising includes a $1.35 billion growth fund that can invest across geographies and stages.

This marks the first time Accel has raised all of its new global funds together.

Accel recently used its previous growth vehicle to participate in the Series B funding round of fintech startup Sahi.

Growing Competition for Indian AI Startups

Accel's new India fund comes shortly after Elevation Capital closed a $500 million India-focused fund targeting early-stage startups, with a particular focus on AI-led products and applications.

The latest fundraising highlights the continued investor interest in India's early-stage technology ecosystem, particularly in artificial intelligence and deeptech.

Leadership and Investment Strategy

Accel is a global venture capital firm with a long-standing presence in India's startup ecosystem.

The firm's latest India fund is designed to back early-stage companies with the potential to build for India or expand globally from the outset.
