Summary and responsibilities

Role overview

Summary

As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for Enpal's internal platform, focusing on reliability, security, and scalability. This role involves defining architecture, driving automation, setting technical standards, and mentoring engineers to elevate the developer experience.

About Enpal Work at Germany's first green unicorn and play an active role in shaping the solar energy transition. At Enpal, you will work with a highly motivated, diverse team of over 65 nationalities in our modern office in Berlin-Friedrichshain, enjoying a vibrant startup spirit backed by a grown-up business.

About the role As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for the internal platform that powers Enpal's applications and services. You will set technical direction, raise the bar on engineering standards, and drive cross-team initiatives that make our platform more reliable, secure, and scalable. Acting as a force multiplier through mentorship, architectural guidance, and hands-on contribution, you will shape the technical strategy of a growing engineering organization.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve platform architecture, making build-vs-buy and long-term design decisions balancing reliability, scalability, security, and cost.

  • Drive infrastructure automation and self-service tooling to remove manual toil across deployment, provisioning, and operations.

  • Establish best practices for Kubernetes operations, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and infrastructure as code across teams.

  • Elevate the developer experience by treating the platform as a product, driving usability, reliability, and documentation improvements.

  • Mentor platform and junior engineers, review designs and code, and raise the team's overall technical standard.

  • Lead complex, cross-team initiatives from scoping and design through rollout, proactively identifying risks and reducing technical debt.

  • Partner closely with developers, operations, security, and leadership to translate real needs into platform solutions and roadmap priorities.

You may be a good fit if you have

  • 8+ years of experience in platform, cloud, DevOps, or software engineering roles, with significant time operating production systems at scale.

  • Proven, hands-on expertise with cloud environments and containerized applications (Azure, Kubernetes), including designing and operating production-grade clusters.

  • Deep experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD tooling, Helm, and observability tooling.

  • A demonstrated track record of leading technical initiatives end to end across multiple teams.

  • Strong system design skills and the ability to reason about reliability, scalability, security, and cost trade-offs.

  • Clear written and spoken English communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels (German knowledge is a plus).

What we offer

  • Hybrid working concept with the flexibility to work in a way that suits your tasks, plus the option to relocate abroad for up to a year via Workflex (up to 30 days/year).

  • Modern office in Berlin-Friedrichshain featuring height-adjustable desks, table tennis, stocked beverage fridges, and barista coffee.

  • Onboarding day with a welcome bag, a buddy program, transparent all-hands meetings, and an open feedback culture.

  • 29 vacation days plus additional days off on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, discounted Wellhub membership, and corporate benefits.

  • Company pension scheme to help you build a solid foundation for your future.

  • Permanent 25% discount on the entire Bosch Smart Home product range for an efficient, connected home.
