Role overview

Summary

The Finance Trainee will be responsible for analyzing and understanding IFRS/IND AS, preparing statutory financial statements, and assisting with various finance domain tasks including reporting, treasury, and investment operations. The role involves working with cross-functional teams and auditors, requiring strong analytical and project management skills.

Position Overview

The Finance Trainee will support finance, accounting, reporting, treasury, investment, and Ind AS/IFRS implementation activities. The role requires strong insurance accounting knowledge, analytical ability, project ownership, and collaboration across finance, actuarial, technology, audit, and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting, Treasury & Ind AS/IFRS

  • Analyze IFRS/Ind AS requirements and prepare technical memos, particularly for financial instruments, insurance contracts, and leases.

  • Understand system data flows and architecture under Ind AS/IFRS.

  • Conduct process walkthroughs, identify gaps, and recommend process improvements.

  • Support proforma IRDAI reporting requirements for Ind AS/IFRS.

Finance & Accounting

  • Prepare statutory financial statements in accordance with IRDAI requirements.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financials for IRDAI reporting.

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual book closures, including required closing entries.

  • Review expense provisions, trends, and variances.

  • Scrutinize ledgers, prepare account schedules, and identify exceptional items.

  • Process and report related-party and group-company transactions in accordance with accounting standards and IRDAI requirements.

Projects & Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate with auditors during audits and limited reviews.

  • Prepare management presentations for ManCom, Steering Committees, parent companies, and industry forums.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, particularly actuarial and technology.

  • Break down large-scale Ind AS/IFRS projects into actionable workstreams, identify risks and bottlenecks, and drive solutions and results.

Finance Systems & Business Analysis

  • Use MS Office; knowledge of SharePoint and Visio is an advantage.

  • Work with GL systems such as SAP FICO/FAM; FPSL or SLAM sub-ledger knowledge is a plus.

  • Translate Ind AS/IFRS requirements into business requirements and prepare Business Requirement Documents (BRDs).

Investment Team

  • Prepare and analyze cash flow statements to support investment decisions.

  • Perform daily reconciliation of subscriptions, redemptions, units, and holdings in SAP.

  • Process corporate actions in SAP Investment Management.

  • Support investment audits.

  • Prepare fund factsheets and performance reports.

Products, Pricing, BMO & Health/Wellness

  • Assist with product formulation strategies and prepare F&U files for IRDAI.

  • Analyze product profitability.

  • Work with distribution teams to support business strategy.

  • Collaborate with Health & Wellness teams to design innovative products and customer-focused offerings.

Required Experience

  • Consulting or project-based experience demonstrating agility, ownership, and results orientation.

  • Experience in IFRS/Ind AS gap analysis or implementation.

  • Knowledge of key insurance regulations, products, accounting, and IFRS/Ind AS.
