Valar Atomics Secures $1 Billion Series B
Nuclear energy startup Valar Atomics has raised $1 billion in Series B funding, reaching a $6 billion post-money valuation, as it accelerates the production of small modular nuclear reactors designed to power AI infrastructure.
The round was led by Sequoia Capital, with an additional $200 million credit facility provided by Erebor and other lenders, bringing the company's total new capital to $1.2 billion.
Building Nuclear Power for AI Infrastructure
Founded in 2023 by Isaiah Taylor, Valar Atomics develops high-temperature gas-cooled small modular reactors (SMRs) that use TRISO fuel and helium cooling.
The company's reactor technology is designed to provide reliable, carbon-free baseload electricity for:
AI data centers
Industrial facilities
Hydrogen production plants
Rather than deploying single reactors, Valar plans to build clusters of reactors, known as "gigasites," capable of delivering large-scale power generation.
Recent Technical Milestone
In July 2026, Valar announced that its reactor successfully generated enough electricity to power an NVIDIA AI chip, marking an important development milestone.
Its Ward 250 demonstration reactor, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, is expected to achieve criticality, the stage where a controlled nuclear chain reaction becomes self-sustaining.
Funding to Scale Manufacturing
The new capital will be used to transition from prototype development to commercial manufacturing of its reactor systems.

November 2025: Raised $130 million Series A
Early 2026: Raised $450 million at a $2 billion valuation
August 2026: Raised $1 billion Series B at a $6 billion valuation
As part of the investment, Shaun Maguire, Partner at Sequoia Capital, will join the company's board.
Growing Demand for Nuclear Energy
Demand for reliable electricity continues to rise as AI infrastructure expands globally.
Large AI data centers require continuous, high-capacity power that intermittent renewable energy sources alone cannot consistently provide. This has renewed investor interest in advanced nuclear technologies, particularly small modular reactors capable of delivering scalable, always-on power.
Valar Atomics aims to position its reactor platform as a long-term energy solution for next-generation AI computing infrastructure.
