Bengaluru-based space-tech startup Pixxel has raised $100 million in Series C funding co-led by Temasek and Seraphim Space, marking one of the largest funding rounds for an Indian space-tech company.
The round includes new investors 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment, alongside existing backers Radical Ventures and growX Ventures. The latest investment takes Pixxel's total funding to $195 million.
Media reports indicate that the company is now valued at approximately $450 million to $500 million following the round.
Expanding beyond hyperspectral imaging
Founded by Awais Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal, Pixxel initially focused on developing hyperspectral imaging satellites capable of capturing detailed information across the electromagnetic spectrum.
The company has since expanded into a broader Earth intelligence business, combining satellite data, software and space systems for commercial and government applications.
With the latest funding, Pixxel plans to expand into advanced sensing satellites, Earth intelligence software, sovereign space systems and satellite manufacturing.
Scaling the Honeybee constellation
A major focus of the new capital will be the expansion of Pixxel's Honeybee satellite constellation.
The company also plans to develop high-resolution optical imaging satellites, scale its Aurora Earth intelligence platform and increase satellite manufacturing capacity through Gigapixxel.
These capabilities are designed to provide more detailed and frequent data about the Earth's surface for applications across industries and government missions.
Growing commercial and government presence
Pixxel has made significant progress since its previous funding round.
Over the past two years, the company has deployed six Firefly satellites, launched its Aurora platform and secured contracts with NASA and the National Reconnaissance Office.
It has also won multiple iDEX challenges from India's Ministry of Defence and was selected to lead the development of India's first public-private Earth observation constellation of 12 satellites under IN-SPACe.
The company's latest funding follows its $60 million Series B round in December 2024. Before the Series C, Pixxel had raised approximately $95 million from investors including Google, Lightspeed, Radical Ventures, Blume Ventures, growX Ventures, Glade Brook Partners and Seraphim.
Building India's global space-tech capabilities
The latest investment comes as India's private space sector continues to attract significant global capital.
Pixxel's expansion from hyperspectral imaging into satellite manufacturing, Earth intelligence and sovereign space systems reflects the growing ambitions of India's space-tech ecosystem.
With $100 million in fresh capital, Pixxel is now looking to scale its satellite constellation, strengthen its Earth intelligence platform and build greater manufacturing capacity for both commercial and sovereign missions.
