Mindgard Raises $30 Million Series A to Advance AI Security
UK-based AI security startup Mindgard has raised $30 million in Series A funding, bringing its total funding to nearly $42 million.
The round was led by Album VC, with new investor Karma Ventures and returning investors .406 Ventures, Atlantic Bridge, IQ Capital, and Lakestar participating.
Mindgard develops security technology designed to identify vulnerabilities in AI models, agents, and applications through automated red-teaming.
Finding Vulnerabilities in AI Systems
Mindgard says its platform has identified more than 150 vulnerabilities in AI products, including a zero-day vulnerability in Cursor and weaknesses affecting ChatGPT's guardrails.
The company has also disclosed vulnerabilities involving Google's Antigravity platform.
Its automated red-teaming platform simulates real attacker behaviour to test AI systems for vulnerabilities rather than relying only on static security checklists.
The platform can identify shadow AI usage, test deployed AI systems, and monitor AI applications during operation.
AI Security from Lancaster University Research
Mindgard was founded in 2022 and originated from AI security research at Lancaster University led by Dr. Peter Garraghan.
Garraghan is now the company's chief science officer.
James Brear became CEO in October 2025 as Mindgard transitioned from its research origins toward enterprise sales. Brear previously held leadership roles at Swimlane, Veriflow, and Procera.
Offensive Security Approach
Mindgard focuses on offensive AI security research, using automated reconnaissance and penetration testing to uncover new exploits.
The company works with organisations across financial services, pharmaceuticals, gaming, digital services, semiconductors, and healthcare.
Its threat database includes more than 150 disclosed vulnerabilities discovered in real-world AI products.
A Growing AI Security Market
Mindgard is operating in a rapidly developing AI security market, with competitors and adjacent security platforms attracting significant investment and consolidation.
Lakera and Protect AI have both been acquired by larger cybersecurity companies, while other AI security startups continue to raise substantial funding.
Mindgard is positioning its offensive security approach as a way for enterprises to continuously identify emerging vulnerabilities as AI systems evolve.
Funding to Expand the Platform
The new $30 million Series A will support Mindgard's product development, engineering, sales, and marketing efforts.
The company now faces the challenge of converting its vulnerability research and red-teaming capabilities into long-term enterprise adoption as organisations increasingly deploy AI in critical operations.
