Bengaluru-based premium home interior materials startup Gravity has raised $15 million in a combination of equity and debt funding, led by Info Edge Ventures and 3one4 Capital.

Alteria Capital, Genesia Ventures and a group of angel investors also participated in the round.

Founded by former Livspace executives Saurabh Jain and Lalit Mittal, Gravity is building a technology and operating platform for India's fragmented interior materials ecosystem. The company initially focuses on kitchen and wardrobe materials and plans to expand into several adjacent categories as it builds out its network.

Building Infrastructure for India's Interior Materials Market

The home interiors industry involves a large number of manufacturers, suppliers, designers, architects, showrooms and design-and-build businesses.

For professionals working on interior projects, sourcing materials can involve coordinating with multiple suppliers while managing availability, pricing, fulfilment and procurement.

Gravity is attempting to bring these fragmented parts of the ecosystem onto a common platform.

The company currently brings together specialist businesses through shared technology, distribution, key account management and operating infrastructure.

Its initial focus is on kitchen and wardrobe segments, with the company saying its portfolio of businesses already has a multi-hundred-crore revenue base and is EBITDA positive.

Gravity plans to build on this foundation by expanding into additional interior categories.

Expanding Beyond Kitchens and Wardrobes

The company's roadmap includes categories such as doors and windows, lighting, wall surfaces, home automation and other adjacent interior systems.

The expansion would allow Gravity to cover a broader portion of the material-selection and procurement process for interior projects.

Rather than operating as a single-category materials company, Gravity is attempting to create a broader platform connecting specialist businesses across different parts of the interiors value chain.

The new funding will support this expansion.

Gravity plans to invest in technology, distribution and key account infrastructure while also allocating capital toward category expansion, brand building and working capital.

Founders Bring Livspace Experience

Gravity was founded by Saurabh Jain and Lalit Mittal, both of whom previously held senior roles at Livspace.

Jain previously served as CEO of Livspace India and helped scale the business to an annualised revenue run rate of approximately Rs 1,500 crore.

Mittal served as Livspace's chief business officer for India and led the company's expansion across 30 cities.

Their experience in scaling an interior-focused business gives Gravity a direct connection to the operational challenges involved in India's home interiors market.

The founders are now applying that experience to a different part of the ecosystem: the materials and procurement layer that sits behind interior projects.

Targeting Designers and Architects

Gravity's target customers include designers, architects, modular showrooms and design-and-build studios.

These professionals can have significant influence over which materials are selected and where those materials are procured for home interior projects.

Gravity aims to simplify this process by bringing suppliers and specialist businesses onto a common operating infrastructure.

The company is focused on improving availability, fulfilment and pricing visibility while making sourcing more streamlined for professionals.

For designers and architects, a more integrated sourcing platform could reduce the operational complexity involved in coordinating materials across multiple categories.

A Large Interior Market

Gravity estimates India's overall home interiors market at approximately Rs 3.5 lakh crore.

Within that market, the company estimates that design-specified materials account for around Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

The opportunity therefore extends beyond individual product categories.

As India's residential construction, renovation and interior design activity expands, the number of materials required for individual projects can also increase.

That creates an opportunity for businesses that can improve how materials are sourced, distributed and delivered.

Gravity is positioning its platform around that specific infrastructure gap.

Building a Multi-Category Platform

The latest $15 million financing gives Gravity capital to expand both horizontally across categories and vertically across its operating infrastructure.

Technology is one area of investment, with the company planning to strengthen its shared technology platform.

Distribution and key account infrastructure are also priorities.

At the same time, Gravity plans to expand its portfolio of categories and invest in brand building and working capital.

Its existing portfolio provides a starting point because the company says those businesses collectively have a multi-hundred-crore revenue base and are EBITDA positive.

The strategy is therefore based on bringing more specialist businesses and product categories into a common operating ecosystem.

The Road Ahead

Gravity's next stage will involve expanding beyond its current kitchen and wardrobe focus while strengthening the infrastructure supporting its existing businesses.

Doors and windows, lighting, wall surfaces and home automation are among the categories the company intends to enter.

The company is also looking to deepen its relationships with designers, architects, modular showrooms and design-and-build studios.

Its broader objective is to simplify sourcing across India's fragmented interior materials ecosystem while improving visibility around pricing, inventory and fulfilment.

With $15 million in new equity and debt capital and a founding team that has experience scaling a major Indian home-interiors business, Gravity is now moving into a larger expansion phase.

The challenge will be building a platform that can successfully coordinate multiple specialist businesses and categories while maintaining the operational efficiency required across a highly fragmented materials market.
