Summary and responsibilities

Role overview

Summary

As an Engineering Lead for AI Enablement at Raisin, you will lead a team of engineers building the internal AI platform and driving AI-assisted engineering practices. Your responsibilities include team growth, delivery ownership, platform operations, and shaping the technical direction while ensuring security and compliance in a regulated financial services environment.

POSITION SUMMARY

The AI Enablement team builds Raisin's internal AI platform, providing governed model access, enterprise security, cost controls, and visibility across engineering, product, and business operations. Operating within regulated fintech, the team also leads AI-assisted development practices, developer tooling, and agentic workflows across the software lifecycle.

As Engineering Lead, you will lead the engineers building this internal platform while advancing company-wide AI-assisted engineering. You will drive roadmap execution, team growth, production reliability, and platform adoption, maintaining hands-on technical depth to guide architectural and governance decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

People Leadership and Team Development

- Hire, onboard, mentor, and retain engineers across platform engineering, infrastructure, and applied AI.

- Conduct regular 1:1s, set clear performance expectations, craft professional growth plans, and address performance concerns proactively.

- Cultivate a culture of psychological safety, high standards, and continuous learning in a rapidly shifting AI ecosystem.

Delivery, Operations, and Platform Reliability

- Own end-to-end platform delivery, translating strategic AI initiatives into quarterly goals, clear estimates, and execution roadmaps.

- Ensure high availability, reliable service levels, proactive monitoring, and robust on-call/incident response protocols.

- Identify delivery risks, unblock engineers, and manage dependencies with technical and business stakeholders.

Product Management and Commercial Governance

- Manage the internal platform as a product, partnering with internal users across Raisin to determine feature priorities.

- Track and report on key platform metrics: user adoption, reliability, cost per token/query, and operational impact.

- Oversee AI budgets, API consumption costs, vendor relationships, enterprise software licenses, and build-vs-buy evaluations.

Technical Strategy and Cross-Functional Alignment

- Partner with tech leads on system architecture, model orchestration, and technical designs; participate in code reviews and key implementations.

- Collaborate closely with security, legal, and compliance teams to ensure all generative AI deployments meet stringent fintech regulatory requirements.

- Accelerate internal adoption of AI-assisted engineering (e.g., coding assistants, workflow agents) through documentation, training, and direct enablement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must-Haves

- 3+ years of engineering leadership experience (Engineering Manager, Team Lead, or Engineering Lead), including hiring, 1:1 coaching, and performance management.

- 7+ years of total software engineering experience, with strong foundations in backend systems, platform engineering, infrastructure, or developer tools.

- Demonstrated success leading teams that build internal products, platforms, or shared services for other engineers.

- Proven track record of owning high-reliability production systems with strict operational SLAs.

- Practical technical grasp of modern AI implementations (LLM APIs, AI coding assistants, agentic patterns) with daily hands-on usage of AI tools.

- Fluent professional English with strong cross-functional communication skills.

Nice-to-Haves

- Prior experience building AI platform components: model gateways, rate limiting, LLM observability, governance, or cost tracking.

- Experience driving org-wide tool adoption and developer productivity initiatives.

- Background working in regulated environments (fintech, banking, or financial services).

- Experience leading remote, hybrid, or distributed engineering teams.

BENEFITS

- Development: €2,000 annual learning budget plus 4 dedicated training days.

- Time off & Flexibility: 30 vacation days, flexible working hours, and hybrid/remote work options.

- Retirement: Company pension plan (Betriebliche Altersvorsorge) with 20% employer contribution.

- Mobility & Wellness: Deutschland Ticket subsidy (€25/month), JobRad leasing with paid insurance, and Urban Sports Club subsidy (€20+/month).

- Office & Relocation: Fresh office snacks/drinks and comprehensive relocation support for qualifying moves.
