Summary and responsibilities
Role overview
Summary
The MF Research Analyst Intern will be responsible for critically evaluating algorithmic fund ratings, conducting ongoing fund and category research, and monitoring top fund picks. This role involves working directly with the founder to shape investment strategies for first-time investors and contributing to thought leadership content.
What You'll Own
Proving Our Ratings Wrong: We rate and rank funds algorithmically. Your job is to check that work by hand — dig into what the model likes, find where it's mistaken, and make the case. When you're right, the algorithm changes.
Ongoing Fund Research: Working directly with the founder on fund and category research that shapes what we put in front of first-time investors.
Tracking Our Top Picks: Monitoring the funds we recommend — performance, style drift, manager changes, anything that should change our view before our users find out the hard way.
Thought Leadership: Research notes and long-form pieces that show people how we think, not just what we recommend.
How We Work
Small team, highly collaborative but individual responsibilities. Growth isn’t gated on tenure. If you can do the next job, you get it.
You work directly with the founder. No layer in between, nobody to hide behind. No office politics, no blame games, direct visibility.
High responsibility, high level of freedom, minimal guidance. Find a problem, design a solution, fix it. You own your work end to end, including when something goes wrong at 9pm.
If you’re right you’re right. No hierarchy, no “do it cause the boss said so”. Best argument wins, regardless of who made it.
Everyone is expected to do 2-3 different tasks. With AI tooling enabling us to learn and do more than ever before come in with one core skillset and learn & apply 1-2 completely new skills with us.
Who This Is For
You teach yourself things nobody assigned you.
The problem is clear, the solution isn’t, and that excites you.
You want real responsibility and opportunity to make an impact immediately.
Who It Isn't For
You want a defined ladder and a manager who assigns your work.
You want remote or hybrid. This is on-site, five days, and we’re not flexible.
You’d rather specialise narrowly than learn new things.
Requirements
A working understanding of mutual fund mechanics: NAV, expense ratio, exit load, AUM, benchmark selection, category classification, and the distinction between direct and regular plans. You should be able to read a scheme factsheet in full without reference material.
The ability to evaluate a fund on more than headline returns — portfolio holdings and concentration, sector and market-capitalisation allocation, portfolio turnover, and performance through a drawdown.
Familiarity with standard risk and performance measures: alpha, beta, standard deviation, Sharpe ratio, tracking error, and the difference between rolling and point-to-point returns, including when each is appropriate.
Advanced Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions, sufficient to construct and maintain a comparative analysis across a large fund universe. Working knowledge of Python or SQL is an advantage but not a requirement.
Competence in sourcing data from primary sources — AMFI disclosures, scheme information documents, monthly portfolio statements and AMC factsheets — rather than third-party aggregators.
Preferred: NISM Series V-A or XV certification, CFA Level 1 or above, or prior research experience, including academic and personal work.
