TidalSense Secures $19 Million in Funding

Cambridge-based health technology company TidalSense has raised $19 million in funding to expand the commercialization of its AI-powered respiratory diagnostic platform.

The round included new investor Cross-Border Impact Ventures, alongside existing investors BGF, Airstream Capital, and Foresight Group.

The latest investment brings TidalSense's total funding to $40 million, including $11 million in grants from Innovate UK, SBRI, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), and Asthma + Lung UK.

Led by CEO and Co-founder Ameera Patel and Co-founder Julian Carter, the company has developed N-Tidal Diagnose, a handheld AI-powered device that detects chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) from normal breathing in under five minutes.

Modernizing COPD Diagnosis with AI

TidalSense's N-Tidal Diagnose replaces traditional spirometry with a handheld device that requires patients to breathe normally into the system for 75 seconds.

The platform analyzes capnogram (CO₂ waveform) data using an AI model trained on 2.5 million patient breaths to identify signs of COPD.

According to the company, the device became the first non-spirometry AI diagnostic tool for COPD to receive a CE Mark under EU MDR Class IIa in 2025.

The solution enables healthcare providers to perform respiratory assessments with minimal training, helping improve access to COPD diagnosis in primary care settings.

Supporting International Expansion

The newly raised funding will be used to expand commercialization across the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Europe, support entry into the U.S. market, advance development of the company's asthma diagnostic platform, and grow its commercial and operations teams.

TidalSense aims to improve access to respiratory diagnostics while reducing delays in COPD diagnosis through AI-powered point-of-care testing.
