TerraFirma Secures $115 Million to Expand Construction Robotics Platform
Austin-based construction technology startup TerraFirma has raised approximately $115 million, including a $100 million Series A funding round led by Kleiner Perkins. The round also saw participation from Bain Capital Ventures, Glade Brook Capital Partners, BANNER VC, Saga Ventures, Trust Ventures, Definition, PEAK6, Magnetar Capital, and Ravelin Capital, along with angel investors from companies including SpaceX, Anduril, Base Power, Shinkei, and Hadrian.
The company said the funding will be used to expand its engineering, manufacturing, operations, and construction teams while accelerating the development of its semi-autonomous heavy equipment systems.
Building AI-Powered Construction Infrastructure
Founded in 2024 by former SpaceX engineers Noah Schochet and Noah McGuinness, TerraFirma develops AI-enabled construction technologies designed to improve productivity across infrastructure projects.
Its platform combines AI-powered pre-construction software, a remote command-and-control center, and retrofitted semi-autonomous heavy machinery, including excavators, dozers, loaders, rollers, and skid steers. Instead of operating equipment directly from the cab, skilled operators can remotely manage fleets of machines from centralized control stations.
According to the company, this approach can increase operator productivity by up to 300%, helping accelerate project execution while improving safety and reducing costs.
Supporting Infrastructure Projects Across Multiple Sectors
TerraFirma is currently working on projects across the housing, energy, transportation, manufacturing, and education sectors.
Recent commercial projects include site preparation and excavation for a Starbucks location in North Austin, a sports arena in Spicewood, and a power substation in New Braunfels. The company also said it is working with the U.S. government on international infrastructure and logistics projects.
Funding to Accelerate Growth
The newly raised capital will support continued product development, manufacturing expansion, and workforce growth as TerraFirma scales its construction robotics platform.
The company said its long-term vision is to develop construction technologies that can support infrastructure projects not only on Earth but also future missions involving the Moon and Mars.
