Bios Life Raises $25 Million Seed Funding to Build Digital Twins for Cancer Risk

Boston-based healthtech startup Bios Life has emerged from stealth with $25 million in seed funding to develop continuously updated digital twin models designed to help assess and manage cancer risk.

The round was led by Redmile, Vsquared Ventures, and Kindred Capital, with participation from healthcare and technology investors from the United States and Europe.

The company has also announced a multi-year partnership with Tempus, a Chicago-based precision medicine company.

Digital Twins for Cancer Risk

Bios Life is developing digital twin models that combine clinical, laboratory, and genetic data to create a continuously updated view of an individual's cancer risk.

Rather than relying only on periodic screening and one-off scans, the platform is designed to update risk assessments as new patient information becomes available.

Bios Life is initially focusing on two groups:

• Cancer survivors

• People with elevated genetic risk of cancer

The company estimates that these groups together represent more than 40 million Americans.

Virtual-First Cancer Care

Bios Life plans to combine its risk modelling technology with a virtual care model.

Licensed care teams will work alongside cancer centres to provide ongoing monitoring and support.

For example, the company describes a potential use case involving a breast cancer survivor with a BRCA gene. Instead of relying only on periodic mammograms, the patient's monitoring could change as new laboratory, genetic, or lifestyle information becomes available.

The company is positioning this approach as a move from episodic screening toward more continuous cancer-risk management.

BioNTech-InstaDeep Genomics AI

Bios Life holds commercial rights to Nucleotide Transformer, a genomics foundation model developed by BioNTech-InstaDeep.

The model is designed to analyse genomic signals down to the level of individual nucleotides and is described by Bios Life as one of the most downloaded genomics AI models worldwide.

The company is incorporating this technology into its broader cancer-risk modelling strategy.

Partnership With Tempus

Bios Life has partnered with Tempus for several years to train and test predictive models using anonymized oncology data.

The companies plan to combine Tempus' multimodal data capabilities with Bios Life's virtual-first care model.

Bios Life will also integrate genetic screening through Ambry Genetics, a Tempus company.

Founding Team

Bios Life was co-founded by Ryan Richardson, who previously served as BioNTech's chief strategy officer, along with Zach Taylor, Dr. Logan Frank, Geoff Hyde, and Dr. Thomas Pierrot.

Richardson serves as CEO, Zach Taylor is chief operating and business officer, Dr. Logan Frank is chief medical officer, Geoff Hyde leads product and engineering, and Dr. Thomas Pierrot leads AI.

Funding to Support US Launch

The $25 million seed funding represents Bios Life's first outside financing.

The company plans to use its funding and partnerships to develop its technology and launch its US platform in the second half of 2026.
