Axle Raises $17.5 Million Series A Funding

New York-based insurance technology startup Axle has raised $17.5 million in Series A funding to automate fragmented insurance workflows and build programmable infrastructure for businesses and AI agents.

The round was led by Base10 Partners, with returning investors Y Combinator and Gradient participating alongside new investor Stage 2 Capital and angel investors including the founders of CoverGenius and members of Plaid's founding team.

Axle operates an AI-native insurance clearinghouse that processes more than $100 billion in insurance coverage annually across more than 4,000 customers.

AI-Powered Insurance Infrastructure

Axle connects fragmented insurance carrier systems and standardizes information through a single API that business software and AI agents can access.

The platform is designed to automate tasks such as verifying insurance coverage, helping businesses receive insurance information without relying on repeated phone calls, manual processes, or disconnected carrier systems.

For example, rental company SIXT uses Axle to verify renter insurance at the point of service.

According to Axle, the company has tripled the number of workflows it automates over the past six months, increased workflow speed by 20 times, and helped customers recover more than $220 million in losses. These figures are company-reported.

Building a Clearinghouse for Insurance

Axle was founded in 2022 by Cameron Duncan, Armaan Sikand, and Nihar Parikh.

The company initially operated from Atlanta and has since established a presence in New York.

The founders previously worked together at Deloitte Digital and Cox Automotive.

Axle's approach is focused on becoming connective infrastructure across insurance carriers and coverage categories rather than operating as an insurer or broker.

Expanding Across Insurance Segments

Axle plans to expand its clearinghouse across more than 50 insurance segments, including:

• Home insurance

• Auto insurance

• Renters insurance

• Commercial insurance

• Specialty coverage

The company is targeting an insurance industry that continues to rely heavily on fragmented and manual processes.

Funding to Expand Engineering and Go-to-Market

The $17.5 million Series A will be used to expand Axle's engineering and go-to-market teams and extend its insurance clearinghouse infrastructure.

The company is competing in a growing insurance technology market alongside startups focused on automating underwriting, claims, documentation, and other insurance workflows.

Leadership

Axle was founded by Cameron Duncan, Armaan Sikand, and Nihar Parikh.

Cameron Duncan serves as CEO.

The company is headquartered in New York, with operations also based in Atlanta.

Axle's broader goal is to make insurance information more standardized, programmable, and accessible to businesses and AI-powered software.
