As an Expert Site Reliability Engineer at Orbem, you will own the reliability, availability, and performance of their growing global fleet of AI-powered MRI systems running on edge infrastructure. You will be the team's deepest technical authority on the on-premise platform, setting architecture and standards through hands-on expertise across hardware, network, operating system, and Kubernetes layers.

About the Role

Orbem develops AI-powered MRI systems deployed directly at customer locations, including hatcheries and food processing facilities. As an Expert Site Reliability Engineer, you will own the reliability, performance, and scalability of a growing global edge infrastructure fleet. Acting as the technical authority for the on-premise platform, you will provide deep expertise across hardware, networking, Linux systems, and Kubernetes environments that support Data, Machine Learning, and Software Engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the lifecycle, reliability, and performance of edge infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment, Linux-based operating systems, and GPU-enabled Kubernetes clusters.
• Design and improve automation for provisioning and managing a growing fleet of edge deployments using tools such as Terraform, IPMI/BMC, and network device APIs.
• Maintain secure connectivity between edge deployments and central cloud platforms while enabling safe software delivery processes.
• Participate in production support rotations, troubleshoot escalated incidents, and lead root cause analysis and resolution efforts.
• Define and monitor SLAs, SLOs, and SLIs for distributed edge environments.
• Enhance observability solutions using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, and custom monitoring integrations.
• Drive technical direction for edge infrastructure architecture and contribute to planning, design reviews, and implementation decisions.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
• Act as the highest-level technical escalation resource for critical production and infrastructure issues.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to gather requirements and align technical solutions with business objectives.
• Eliminate manual processes through automation and continuous platform improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced expertise in Kubernetes administration and operations, particularly within edge or on-premises environments.
• Strong programming skills in Golang, Python, or other modern languages.
• Deep experience with monitoring, observability, and alerting systems, including Prometheus and Grafana.
• Expert-level proficiency with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Extensive Linux systems administration experience and knowledge of server hardware, BIOS, RAID controllers, boot processes, and infrastructure troubleshooting.
• Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and GitOps platforms such as Argo CD.
• Understanding of security best practices, certificate management, VPNs, IPSec, and secure networking concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong data center infrastructure knowledge, including routers, switches, servers, TPM modules, and hardware-level troubleshooting.
• Experience implementing and managing bare-metal infrastructure automation.
• Expertise designing scalable Kubernetes architectures and modern GitOps-based deployment workflows.
• Proven ability to build repeatable, version-controlled, and scalable infrastructure environments through Terraform.

Key Competencies

• Strategic thinker with the ability to define long-term infrastructure roadmaps and platform improvements.
• Excellent communicator who collaborates effectively with engineers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
• Strong ownership mindset with accountability for reliability, documentation, and continuous improvement.
• Data-driven approach to prioritization using metrics, incidents, and operational insights.
• Customer-focused mindset that balances developer experience with end-user reliability.

What We Offer

• International and diverse work environment with colleagues from over 40 nationalities.
• Stock options and participation in company growth.
• Relocation support for employees moving to Germany.
• Annual learning and development budget.
• Fitness membership support.
