Summary and responsibilities

Role overview

Summary

Lead a team of 6-7 engineers, owning delivery, quality, and production health. Define team mission and roadmap with product partners, contribute to architecture, and uphold security and scalability standards for a platform booking billions of appointments annually.

Job Summary

Doctolib is seeking an Engineering Manager to join the Scheduling team in Berlin. In this role, you will lead a feature team responsible for core scheduling infrastructure and booking workflows used by healthcare practitioners and patients across Europe. You will partner with product counterparts to define roadmaps, drive service extraction from a monolithic architecture, and uphold top-tier security, reliability, and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 6 to 7 software engineers across varied seniority levels while owning end-to-end delivery and system health.

- Collaborate with product management to define the team mission, set technical strategy, and deliver roadmap commitments.

- Participate in technical architecture reviews and guide the migration of core capabilities from a Rails monolith to purpose-built services.

- Establish and enforce high engineering standards for scalability, latency, performance, and security across European e-health platforms.

- Partner with People and Talent teams to recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent through actionable feedback and career pathways.

- Integrate AI-assisted engineering tools into development workflows with a clear view of their benefits and limits.

- Continuously refine team processes, including sprint planning, on-call rotations, incident post-mortems, and bug triage.

Qualifications

Required:

- At least 6 years of software engineering experience and 3 years in engineering management leading teams of 5 or more engineers.

- Strong technical depth in distributed systems, data modeling, high-throughput architectures, and code reviews.

- Hands-on track record modernizing large legacy systems and decoupling monoliths into microservices without halting delivery.

- Clear communication skills with experience aligning team output with business objectives and addressing issues early.

- Pragmatic, solution-oriented leadership style.

Preferred:

- Experience in regulated domains like healthcare or fintech where privacy and data compliance guide system design.

- Experience operating within hyper-growth environments and navigating organizational scale trade-offs.

- Informed perspective on AI coding assistants and their practical utility in production teams.

Tech Stack

- Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, Kotlin, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Apache Kafka.

Benefits and Perks

- Permanent full-time role based in Berlin with a hybrid setup (up to 2 remote days per week).

- Fully funded Deutschlandticket for public transit across Germany.

- 28 vacation days, scaling up to 30 days based on tenure.

- Up to 10 days per year of work-from-abroad flexibility.

- Company pension scheme (bAV) through Allianz with up to 40% employer subsidy.

- Comprehensive supplemental health insurance via Allianz.

- Doctolib Parent Care program, providing 1 additional month of parental leave.

- Participation in DoctoGrowth long-term employee value sharing plan.

- Free mental health coaching via Moka.care and subsidized fitness via Urban Sports Club.

- Relocation assistance for international hires, plus subsidized meal options.
