San Francisco-based Generalist AI has secured $400 million in a funding round that values the robotics and artificial intelligence company at $2 billion.
The investment was led by Radical Ventures. Existing and new investors, including 8VC, Union Square Ventures, Hanabi Capital, Nvidia's NVentures, and Bezos Expeditions, also participated in the round.
Funding to Support Robotics and AI Development
Generalist AI plans to use the fresh capital to strengthen its physical AI research capabilities. The company also aims to expand its robotics testing infrastructure and accelerate the development of adaptive control systems designed for industrial and household automation.
As robotics companies continue to focus on real-world deployment, investment in testing environments and AI training systems has become increasingly important. Therefore, the new funding is expected to support Generalist AI's efforts to improve how robots respond to changing physical conditions.
Building Foundation Models for Robotics
Generalist AI was founded by Pete Florence and is led alongside Chief Scientist Andy Zeng and Chief Technology Officer Andrew Barry.
The company develops GEN-1, a vision-language-action foundation model designed for robotic systems. The model enables robots to interpret visual information, understand instructions, and adjust their actions while interacting with objects and dynamic environments.
According to the company, the technology allows robotic hardware to adapt its movements, maintain grip, and recalibrate tasks when conditions change during operation.
Focus on Embodied AI
Generalist AI officially introduced its core foundation model architecture in April 2026. Since then, the company has focused on advancing embodied AI, a field that combines artificial intelligence with physical robotic systems.
The company states that its model has demonstrated improvements in task execution performance across benchmark evaluations. In addition, its technical team includes researchers with experience in artificial intelligence and robotics from organizations such as Google DeepMind and Boston Dynamics.
With the latest funding, Generalist AI plans to continue expanding its research and engineering efforts as demand grows for AI-powered robotic systems across industrial and consumer applications.
