Role overview
Summary
This Product Manager role involves end-to-end ownership of the music catalogue for Skoove's piano learning apps, encompassing licensing, commercial modeling, and rights management. The successful candidate will negotiate with music publishers and labels, ensuring the content strategy aligns with both learner needs and business objectives.
Music Content Product Manager - Learnfield (Skoove, Trala)
Learnfield is looking for a Music Content Product Manager to own the song catalogue and licensing strategy across its piano learning apps. You will decide which music to license, manage content costs and rights, work with publishers and labels, and ensure the catalogue delivers strong learner value and business results.
Key Responsibilities
Own the Skoove song catalogue, including additions, retirements, and content strategy.
Co-own song selection with the Didactics Lead, balancing pedagogy, learner demand, licensing rights, and catalogue value.
Build commercial models covering licensing costs, revenue share, cost per subscriber and song, catalogue coverage, and conversion impact.
Own the music rights framework, including territories, licence terms, usage permissions, and content clearance.
Represent Learnfield in discussions and negotiations with publishers and labels, supported initially by the CEO and an external licensing advisor.
Manage contractual reporting, usage reports, payments, audits, and disputes, ensuring partner obligations are completed on time.
Monitor catalogue usage, publisher share, licensing targets, and performance trends, translating insights into product and licensing decisions.
Manage the content team's backlog and work closely with engineering to turn priorities into measurable outcomes.
Use AI coding and productivity tools to prototype, analyse data, model scenarios, and improve product workflows.
Contribute to product strategy and collaborate with other product owners across the company.
Role Growth
You will initially manage the existing catalogue and licensing relationships. Over your first year, you will take increasing ownership of negotiations as the CEO steps back and help shape content strategy across additional products and partner apps.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of relevant professional experience, including at least 2 years with clear ownership and responsibility.
Product management experience preferred; backgrounds in music licensing, rights, catalogue, partnerships, or commercial roles are also welcome.
Working knowledge of music licensing, including publishers, performing rights organizations (PROs), mechanical licences, and how rights affect digital products.
Ability to play piano or sufficient experience learning piano to understand the learner journey.
Strong stakeholder and partner management skills, including experience participating in negotiations.
Highly reliable with contractual obligations, reporting requirements, and recurring deadlines.
Strong analytical and commercial skills, including cohort analysis, experimentation, and financial modelling.
Product management skills with the ability to prioritize user and business needs and make outcome-focused decisions.
Strong AI/LLM fluency and willingness to experiment with AI-enabled approaches to analysis, modelling, reporting, and product work.
Excellent written and spoken English.
