Product Manager – Oil & Gas Technology / Digital Drilling
Location: Remote – India
Job Type: Full-time
Experience: 5+ years in Product Management/Product Ownership, with strong Oil & Gas industry experience
Compensation: ₹30–35 LPA, depending on experience and suitability
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Product Manager with a strong Oil & Gas background to lead digital products supporting drilling operations. Oil & Gas industry experience is mandatory for this role, and experience in drilling, directional drilling, MWD/LWD, geosteering, drilling data, well construction or drilling technology will be highly valued.
You will work with an Australian energy technology company developing digital solutions for the Oil & Gas industry, working closely with customers, drilling professionals, engineers, software developers, data/AI specialists and other technical stakeholders.
This is a true Product Management role. You will be expected to understand customer and operational problems, determine what should be built, define product requirements, prioritise the roadmap and work with engineering teams to deliver products that solve real industry problems.
Key Responsibilities1. Product Discovery & Customer Understanding
- Work directly with Oil & Gas customers and operational users to understand their workflows, challenges and priorities.
- Understand drilling and field operational problems and translate them into product opportunities.
- Conduct customer interviews, discovery sessions and feedback discussions.
- Identify customer needs and distinguish genuine product problems from individual feature requests.
- Research competitors, market developments and emerging technologies in Oil & Gas.
- Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Develop and maintain product vision, strategy and roadmap.
- Identify and prioritise the most valuable product opportunities.
- Balance customer needs, business priorities, technical feasibility and development capacity.
- Make clear decisions about what to build, what not to build and when to build it.
- Define short-, medium- and long-term product priorities.
- Product Requirements
- Translate customer and operational problems into clear product requirements.
- Develop PRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria and product specifications.
- Work with engineering and technical teams to clarify requirements and resolve ambiguity.
- Define MVPs and phased product releases.
- Ensure that requirements address usability, reliability, security, performance and operational considerations where relevant.
- Engineering & Technical Collaboration
- Work closely with software engineers, data/AI specialists and technical teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Understand technical constraints sufficiently to make informed product decisions.
- Participate in technical discussions and evaluate alternative solutions with engineering.
- Balance product value against development effort, technical complexity and delivery timelines.
- Ensure that product decisions are grounded in both customer needs and technical reality.
- Digital, Data & AI Products
- Work with products involving real-time operational data, analytics, automation and digital workflows.
- Identify appropriate opportunities for AI/ML, automation and advanced analytics.
- Evaluate whether AI genuinely improves the customer problem rather than introducing technology for its own sake.
- Consider data quality, accuracy, reliability, false positives, human oversight and operational consequences when developing AI-enabled features.
- Product Delivery & Continuous Improvement
- Work with engineering teams through development, testing, release and product improvement.
- Monitor product performance and customer adoption.
- Gather post-release customer feedback and use it to improve the product.
- Define and track meaningful product success metrics.
- Continuously improve usability, functionality and customer value.
Required Experience & QualificationsMandatory
- 5+ years of professional experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
- 5+ years of genuine Product Management or Product Ownership experience.
- Experience working with Oil & Gas products, services, operations or technology.
- Strong understanding of Oil & Gas operational environments.
- Experience working directly with technical/engineering teams.
- Experience with product strategy, roadmap development and prioritisation.
- Experience defining product requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to understand complex technical and operational problems and convert them into practical product solutions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
