POSITION OVERVIEW
JOB SUMMARY:
The Center for Environmental Diagnostics and Bioremediation (CEDB) at the University of West Florida (UWF) in Pensacola, Florida pursues modern research addressing local and regional environmental issues with basic and applied research approaches (uwf.edu/cedb). We invite applications for a faculty position to serve as Center Director, with an anticipated start date of August 2027. This position is a full-time, 12-month tenured appointment with rank of Associate Professor or Professor. CEDB is a collaborative interdisciplinary research center at UWF with an emphasis on water quality and habitat issues. Candidates from a broad range of disciplines will be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to bring an established research program that complements existing expertise and programs on campus. Candidates with established records of research leadership, including recruitment and expansion of a multidisciplinary research team are especially encouraged to apply. The Director is a member of the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering leadership team, working collaboratively to align and advance the strategic goals of the Center with those of the College and University. The Director manages infrastructure and operating budgets of the research labs as well as of the Wetlands Research Laboratory (WRL), the analytical arm of CEDB, including maintaining and expanding the appropriate analytical certifications.
We seek a collaborative, dynamic, and visionary leader who will integrate cutting-edge science using available resources as well as seeking extramural support. Preferred qualifications also include evidence of fostering strategic partnerships with regional, state, federal, and non-governmental organizations for extramural research support. Documentation of success in serving as a key liaison between research scientists and external stakeholders is also a plus.
CEDB appointments are generally 75% research with 25% teaching (one course per semester). The successful candidate will apply for tenure and promotion through the relevant academic department, depending on expertise. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students is a critical component of the university’s objectives and evaluation of candidates will include prior teaching and mentoring successes. The position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to and complement existing expertise on campus. UWF is a student-centered public university where faculty and students collaborate on meaningful research across all disciplines. Known for strong graduation rates and personalized attention to strengthen workforce development, UWF emphasizes experiential learning that prepares students for the next step in their career path. Our location in northwest Florida provides easy access to coastal and terrestrial field sites. Engineering programs are rapidly growing, Chemistry is a highly regarded undergraduate research department, and the Biology and Earth and Environmental Sciences Departments continue to grow and increase research productivity.
