Role overview
Summary
This position supports the animal facility cage wash area by washing animal caging, processing dirty and clean caging through automated cage wash, and maintaining the cleanliness of the cage wash area. Responsibilities include sanitizing and maintaining animal caging and equipment, operating cage washers and autoclaves, and performing general housekeeping of the animal facility.
The Center for Comparative Medicine (CCM) ensures the health and well-being of research animals at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). CCM provides the highest quality animal care and acts as a resource for the faculty on veterinary and scientific issues relating to the use of laboratory animals. This position supports the animal facility cage wash area by washing animal caging, processing dirty and clean caging through automated cage wash, and maintaining the cleanliness of the cage wash area.
CCM staff are responsible for attending monthly all staff meetings, safety trainings, facility staff meetings, TAR trainings, and reviewing CCM SOPs as required.
Standard CCM hours are Monday - Friday, 7am to 4pm. Weekend and holiday work is required, on a rotational basis, as CCM is operational 365days a year. Coverage during weather related storms may be required, as the need arises.
Job Duties
Sanitize, maintain, and conduct routine repairs to animal caging and related equipment.
Operate cage washers, autoclaves, sterilizers, and pallet jack equipment in accordance with established safety guidelines.
Maintain and clean the cage wash and animal facility, in accordance with standard operating procedures and individual facility requirements.
Perform general housekeeping of animal facility.
Assist with the receipt of, stocking and maintenance of supply inventories.
Prepare and submit required written records, charts, logs, and inventory lists.
Maintain bulk feed and bedding supplies, as required.
Dispose of waste materials in accordance with established standard operating and safety procedures.
Review, understand and comply with all relevant standard operating procedures and established quality assurance standards pertaining to the specific work or task area.
Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
No experience required.
Work Authorization Requirement:
