Summary
The Development Associate will provide support to the Development team by analyzing new development opportunities, performing cost/financial analyses, managing project budgets, and administering contracts. This role offers significant exposure to the full lifecycle of multifamily development, working closely with senior leadership from acquisition through project delivery.

Development Associate
CONAM is seeking an energetic, resourceful Development Associate to support the Development team in evaluating new opportunities, performing financial analysis, managing project budgets, administering contracts, conducting market research, and maintaining analytical tools. This role provides exposure to the full multifamily development lifecycle, from acquisition through project delivery, while working closely with senior leadership.
Location: San Diego Corporate Office (onsite, 5 days/week; local candidates only)
Employment: Full-Time
Salary: $105,000–$120,000
Key Responsibilities
Acquisitions & Development
Support the EVP of Development in identifying, underwriting, and evaluating new development opportunities.
Coordinate with brokers and other stakeholders.
Gather financial, market, demographic, site, and regulatory data.
Research plans, ordinances, legal documents, and market information to determine highest and best use.
Financial Analysis
Perform underwriting, financial modeling, market research, and due diligence.
Monitor market conditions, lease comparables, and sales comparables.
Develop forecasts, pro formas, and analytical tools.
Project Management
Participate in project meetings and coordinate activities.
Prepare and track budgets, schedules, KPIs, and forecasts.
Administer consultant contracts and organize procurement.
Prepare agendas, meeting minutes, reports, dashboards, and presentations.
Order and summarize third-party reports.
Coordinate due diligence, capital projections, reporting, and communication with accounting, consultants, and capital partners.
Communication
Communicate effectively with senior leadership, investors, brokers, property managers, consultants, and other stakeholders.
Prepare professional reports and presentation materials.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
Degree in real estate, finance, economics, or a related field.
Knowledge of real estate development, construction, or related disciplines.
Strong financial modeling skills, including development pro formas and sensitivity analysis.
Multifamily or mixed-use underwriting experience preferred.
Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency required.
Experience with project management software and construction-related contracts preferred.
Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
