About The Role

Wildlife Trust of India is seeking a passionate Restoration Ecologist to lead and implement science-based ecosystem restoration initiatives in Gujarat. The role focuses on restoring degraded habitats through field-driven action, community engagement, and measurable ecological outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement restoration plan for identified degraded ecosystems (grasslands and forests habitats) in coordination with restoration technical expert.

  • Conduct ecological assessments and identify suitable native species and restoration approaches.

  • Lead on-ground implementation, including plantation, invasive species control, and habitat improvement.

  • Establish and manage ecological monitoring systems using indicator species and habitat recovery metrics.

  • Work closely with the local communities to promote participatory restoration and long-term stewardship.

  • Coordinate with CSR partners, Forest Department and other stakeholders for effective project delivery.

  • Document outcomes, best practices, and contribute to knowledge building and donor reporting.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Forestry/Ecology/Environmental Science, or related field.

  • 8-10 years of experience in ecological restoration, conservation, or related fieldwork.

  • Strong understanding of dryland/semi-arid ecosystems (experience of working in Gujarat, or other western India preferred).

  • Proven experience in field implementation, community engagement and managing team

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong ecological and field research skills.

  • Project coordination and team management ability.

  • Familiarity with GIS/remote sensing (desirable).

  • Good communication skills (English & Hindi; Gujarati is an advantage).

  • Willingness to work in remote field conditions and/or HQ.
