Summary

This role involves providing comprehensive care for aquatic laboratory animals and their environment, ensuring adherence to state, federal, and university regulations. Key responsibilities include food preparation, tank cleaning, meticulous record keeping, and observing and communicating animal health conditions to laboratory personnel.

Provides care for aquatic laboratory animals and their environment through animal husbandry and keeps records according to state, federal and university regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Food preparation and feeding

  • Tank cleaning

  • Dish washing

  • Careful adherence to research protocols

  • Maintains routine record keeping of such items as environmental conditions and animals inventory

  • Observes and communicates animal health conditions to lab personnel and notifies supervisor of abnormal conditions

  • Distributes supplies to various research areas


Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

  • Animal Care Technician, I: Requires little to no related experience.

  • Animal Care Technician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.

  • Animal Care Technician, III: Requires 3+ years of related experience.
