Role overview

Summary

This is a seasonal, full-time position within the Spokane Tribe's Wildlife Program, aimed at students interested in natural resources. The role involves assisting Habitat and Wildlife Biologists with various tasks including surveys, data collection, monitoring, plantings, invasive species control, big game management, sample collection, animal captures, mortality investigations, and telemetry.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a new position within the Spokane Tribe’s Wildlife Program targeted at students who show interest in pursuing a degree and career in natural resources related fields. This position will aim to provide a variety of experiences in Natural Resources. This position will be a fulltime, seasonal position totaling 600 hours with flexible start and end dates and could run from May until October. This position will assist Habitat Biologists with a variety of tasks pertaining to surveys, data collection, monitoring, plantings, and invasive species control. This position will assist Wildlife Biologists with a variety of tasks including big game management techniques, sample collection, data collection, surveys, animal captures, mortality investigations and telemetry. Must be willing to travel for multiple overnight stays when needed.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Must be able to work independently or in a small group in rugged & remote terrain.

  • Be willing to travel extensively throughout the Spokane Indian Reservation

  • Familiarity with maps and GPS functions.

  • Ability to identify wildlife species.

  • Ability to identify tree and plant species.

  • Experience in the use and application of standard computer programs and associated software.

  • Must be able to work with diverse cultural, professional and technical interdisciplinary teams.

  • Must be willing to work extended hours, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolled as a High School or College Student with interest in pursuing a degree in Natural Resources field.

  • Valid Driver's Licenses

  • Must successfully pass background check

  • Indian Preference Applies – Indian Preference grants preference to any enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe.
