Role overview
Summary
This role involves coordinating the development and delivery of critical Avionics, GNC, and Flight Software domains for the Nyx program. The Project Manager will ensure alignment with program objectives, manage scope, schedule, risks, and dependencies, and facilitate cross-functional collaboration among technical and program teams.
Role Overview
The Exploration Company is seeking a Project Manager — Avionics, GNC & Flight Software to coordinate the development, integration, and delivery of core electronic, control, and software systems for the Nyx orbital vehicle. This cross-functional position aligns engineering execution with program-level targets across the full mission profile, from launch and docking to re-entry and recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and direct project planning, milestones, and deliverables for Avionics, GNC, and Flight Software work packages within the Nyx program.
- Coordinate the development lifecycle from requirements definition and architecture through HW/SW implementation, qualification, and release.
- Maintain total visibility on scope, schedules, interface dependencies, risks, and resource demands across technical streams.
- Partner with technical leads, systems engineering, propulsion, verification, and mission operations to resolve blockers and support timely trade-offs.
- Support planning for avionics integration, software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and mission rehearsals.
- Organize inputs for technical reviews (PDR, CDR, qualification reviews) and oversee action item closure.
- Track verification matrices, test execution, technical reports, and compliance documentation.
- Monitor risk registers, define mitigation pathways early, and escalate blocking issues to program management.
- Manage engineering change requests, evaluating programmatic and technical impact on scope, budget, and interfaces.
- Prepare clear progress reporting and status updates for program executives, suppliers, and customer meetings.
- Assist with team resource allocation and support continuous improvement of PMO processes.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Proven project or program management experience in aerospace, space missions, aviation, automotive, robotics, or high-reliability embedded systems.
- Technical understanding of spacecraft avionics, GNC algorithms, flight software architectures, or embedded control environments.
- Demonstrated background managing multi-disciplinary engineering packages, inter-team dependencies, and technical risk lifecycles.
- Working familiarity with engineering workflows across requirements capture, integration testing, and formal verification.
- Proficiency using standard project planning, task management, and engineering toolsets.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- Professional fluency in English; proficiency in other European languages is advantageous.
Candidate Profile
- Comfortable engaging in deep-dive technical discussions with specialists while maintaining high-level program direction.
- Skilled at instilling process structure without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Proactive communicator committed to accountability, constructive challenge, and disciplined execution in rapid aerospace programs.
What We Offer
- Fast-paced, transparent, and collaborative agile engineering culture working on cutting-edge orbital vehicles.
- Relocation package and visa sponsorship support for qualified candidates.
- Equal opportunity working environment.
