Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Aquatic Technician to support the maintenance and management of aquatic environments, including ponds, lakes, pools, aquariums, and water features. The role is responsible for maintaining water quality, aquatic equipment, animal welfare, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform routine aquatic facility maintenance, including water quality testing, filtration maintenance, cleaning, and debris removal.
Monitor and maintain water chemistry, including pH, chlorine, alkalinity, and other required parameters.
Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot aquatic equipment such as pumps, valves, heaters, circulation systems, filtration units, and UV sterilizers.
Complete and maintain work orders and required documentation.
Obtain and maintain required certifications and licenses within established timelines.
Identify aquatic plant and algae species common to the region.
Follow safety SOPs and promptly report incidents and hazards.
Maintain aquatic equipment, tools, and company vehicles.
Conduct regular inspections of aquatic habitats to assess animal health and welfare and identify signs of disease or stress.
Assist with transportation, acclimation, and quarantine procedures for new aquatic animals.
Provide educational programs and presentations to staff, volunteers, and visitors on aquatic conservation, ecology, and responsible pet ownership.
Maintain accurate records of water quality, equipment maintenance, animal health, and related activities.
Respond to emergencies involving water quality, equipment failures, or animal health and follow established response protocols.
Work collaboratively with team members while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, animal welfare, and conservation.
Candidate Requirements
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Degree in a related science field preferred.
Experience:
0–1 years of experience in an environmental or related field preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of aquatic biology, ecology, and water chemistry.
Familiarity with aquatic filtration systems, pumps, UV sterilizers, and water testing equipment.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Physical ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform hands-on maintenance.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with colleagues, visitors, and volunteers.
Commitment to animal welfare, conservation, and aquatic ecosystem protection.
CPR, first aid, and lifeguard certification preferred.
Willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins.
Valid driver’s license required.
