Wildlife Biological Science Technician
Position Overview:
The Wildlife Biological Science Technician performs wildlife management duties and applies wildlife damage management (WDM) techniques to reduce damage caused by wildlife and protect agriculture, natural resources, property, and human health and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
• Inspect and survey areas and revise existing WDM programs as needed in consultation with higher-level management.
• Assist Wildlife Biologists in identifying current wildlife damage, forecasting potential problems, and determining the species responsible.
• Adapt established wildlife damage control techniques to address local environmental, economic, and operational conditions.
• Enter wildlife management data into established databases or systems of record and prepare routine daily, weekly, or monthly reports on activities, observations, and events.
• Organize and conduct direct wildlife damage control operations within an assigned geographic or technical program area.
• Maintain public contacts and assist in developing wildlife damage management strategies using technical assistance and operational control methods.
Requirements:
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
• Valid state driver's license required at the time of application.
• Must successfully pass E-Verify employment verification.
• Subject to satisfactory background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
• Selectee must complete pre-employment urinalysis for illegal drug use and may be subject to random testing.
• Selectee may be required to complete a pre-employment medical statement and/or examination.
Qualifications – GS-5:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level demonstrating experience with wildlife damage mitigation methods and techniques, lethal and non-lethal animal control methods, and basic computer operations for record keeping, data analysis, reports, and correspondence.
OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year bachelor's degree with major study, or at least 24 semester hours, in scientific or technical subjects such as biology, chemistry, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics, including at least 6 semester hours in wildlife. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may qualify.
Qualifications – GS-6:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level demonstrating knowledge and experience in human-wildlife conflicts and wildlife damage management; requirements of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), Endangered Species Act, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); wildlife damage assessments, counts, and abundance surveys; and the use of firearms, traps, snares, pesticides, immobilizing drugs, pyrotechnics, electronic harassment devices, and other lethal/non-lethal control tools. Experience establishing and maintaining public contacts to develop wildlife assistance strategies is also required.

Successful completion of one year of graduate education (18 semester hours) in wildlife.
