Job Purpose
Lead WOAH’s World Animal Health Information Department and oversee the collection, verification, analysis and dissemination of global animal health information through WAHIS. Provide strategic direction for the development of WAHIS and represent WOAH in international forums.
Key Responsibilities
• Define the Department roadmap, strategic initiatives and performance objectives in line with WOAH goals.
• Lead and develop the department team, including recruitment, performance management, skills development and continuous improvement.
• Oversee verification, processing and publication of animal disease notifications, follow-up reports and periodic reports submitted through WAHIS.
• Supervise active searches for non-official disease information, assess and verify findings, and coordinate with relevant WOAH Members.
• Support early disease detection initiatives and collaboration with international organisations and systems such as GLEWS and EIOS.
• Lead WAHIS user training, including global and regional workshops, training materials and e-learning development.
• Provide technical and strategic input into the development and improvement of WAHIS, databases, workflows and data management tools.
• Establish performance indicators, improve departmental procedures and coordinate scientific publications and technical information.
• Manage relationships with WOAH Members, resource partners and external organisations, and represent WOAH at international conferences and technical meetings.
• Report on departmental activities and implementation to the General Directorate and World Assembly.
Requirements
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent.
• At least 10 years of professional experience with national Veterinary Services or in the public/private sector, including animal health data analysis and/or monitoring and evaluation.
• At least 8 years of management experience and significant international experience.
• Knowledge of disease surveillance, prevention and control, epidemiology and risk assessment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of process analysis and workflow development.
• Excellent English; proficiency in Spanish and/or French is an advantage.
• Strong IT skills, particularly in GIS, database management, data analysis, intelligence and/or statistical software.
• Excellent leadership, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work effectively in multinational and multicultural environments.
• Strategic thinking, initiative, attention to detail, organisational awareness and the ability to manage sensitive information.
Working Conditions
Based at WOAH Headquarters, 12 rue de Prony, 75017 Paris, France. Full-time position involving extended computer-based work and regular international travel. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, with allowances subject to eligibility. Salary is exempt from income tax in France.
