Summary

Nexus Environmental Consultants, Inc. is seeking Biologists/Environmental Scientists to conduct various environmental surveys, including wildlife, vegetation, and water resources. The role involves extensive fieldwork in remote conditions, data collection, and providing technical assistance for report preparation.

Position Announcement

Nexus is seeking individuals to fill multiple positions as Biologists based in Elko, Nevada. Duties would include but are not limited to: Conducting wildlife surveys (birds, mammals, reptiles, and other wildlife); vegetation surveys (community mapping, noxious weeds, invasive species, and sensitive plants; and water surveys (surface and groundwater sampling for water quality, quantity, and flow). Other tasks may be included based on workload.

These are full-time positions, overtime-eligible, and with full benefits offered including medical, dental, vision, 401K match, and annual paid leave. The successful applicants would function as a member of the existing biological team at Nexus.

Work Duties

  • Survey for terrestrial wildlife including but not limited to the following: pygmy rabbits, western burrowing owl, migratory birds, raptors, springsnails, small mammals, acoustic bat surveys, lek surveys, etc.

  • Survey for vegetation species, including but not limited to the following: vegetation community mapping, noxious weed surveys, inventories and mapping, sensitive plant surveys, etc.

  • Survey for water resources, including but not limited to the following: collecting water quality samples, measuring seep/spring and stream flow, documenting field parameters, and recording field conditions.

  • Provide technical assistance on report preparation using survey findings.

  • Provide technical assistance on technical biological resource report preparation in support of NEPA analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or related field required. Post graduate degree in biology, ecology, or related field a plus, but not required.

  • 1+ years of experience in the western United States conducting similar work required.

  • Travel up to 50% required, camping may be required.

  • Ability to work in remote, rural conditions.

  • Ability to work independently and with others.

  • Ability to hike for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Attention to detail and note taking.

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Commitment to safety and Nexus safety protocols and standards.

  • Aerial raptor survey experience a plus.

  • Technical writing experience a plus.

  • Plant identification skills a plus.
