What to Expect
Lead and coordinate the Department’s Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) management programs, including incident response, planning, and statewide coordination. Serve as Incident Commander or Deputy Incident Commander during AIS incidents and work with state and federal agencies, Tribal nations, NGOs, industry, and local stakeholders to develop and implement effective management strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Lead AIS incident command systems and multi-agency coordination efforts.
Develop and manage AIS response plans, long-term management strategies, and statewide prevention, containment, eradication, and mitigation initiatives.
Coordinate with government agencies, Tribal nations, industry partners, and other stakeholders on AIS management.
Manage rapid response funding agreements, work plans, budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
Lead rapid response and infested site management following detection of prohibited invasive species.
Develop and oversee property access warrants, quarantines, and regulatory actions when necessary.
Negotiate and administer cooperative agreements and mutual aid partnerships.
Obtain and manage environmental permits, including NPDES permits.
Provide technical expertise and policy guidance on AIS management.
Improve existing response plans and management strategies through collaboration with internal and external partners.
Working Conditions
Office-based environment with occasional field work.
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; additional hours or weekends may be required during peak periods.
Flexible work schedule may be available with supervisor approval.
Statewide travel required for meetings, training, and incident response.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Fisheries Science, Wildlife Biology, Aquatic Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Conservation Biology, Marine Biology, Biological Sciences, Environmental Policy, or a related field.
3+ years of professional experience in aquatic invasive species management, invasive species management, wildlife management, integrated pest management, natural resource management, or a related field.
1+ year of leadership or supervisory experience, including staff supervision, conflict resolution, work planning, training, and performance management.
Required Experience
Applying science-based policies and regulations to natural resource management.
Developing response plans and long-term management strategies.
Leading multi-agency resource management projects.
Implementing invasive species prevention, detection, rapid response, containment, and control programs.
Interpreting environmental regulations and regulatory controls.
Negotiating cooperative agreements with federal, state, Tribal, and local partners.
Managing environmental permits such as NPDES or Special Use Permits.
Certifications
Valid driver's license with ability to travel independently throughout the state.
Preferred Qualifications
Project and portfolio management.
Risk management and structured decision-making.
Incident Command System (ICS), Unified Command, or multi-agency coordination experience.
Strong collaboration, facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
