The Wildlife Maintenance Propagator is responsible for supporting game farm operations by raising pheasants for statewide release and maintaining farm facilities, equipment, and infrastructure. The role combines wildlife husbandry, skilled trades, equipment maintenance, and operational oversight to ensure healthy bird production and efficient game farm operations. Responsibilities include bird care, facility and equipment maintenance, recordkeeping, and supervising daily work activities while supporting the organization's wildlife conservation mission.
Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare brooder houses by cleaning, disinfecting, and setting up housing materials before chick placement.
Provide daily care for game birds by monitoring temperature, ventilation, lighting, feed, water, and overall bird health throughout all growth stages.
Perform bird handling activities including administering medications, sexing birds, beak trimming, removing deceased birds, and loading birds for transportation and release.
Perform skilled maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, utilities, and infrastructure, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, and mechanical work.
Conduct preventive maintenance and basic repairs on trucks, tractors, and other farm equipment, including replacing fluids, filters, and worn components.
Maintain operational records related to bird production, maintenance activities, and farm operations.
Lead and coordinate the daily activities of Game Farm Workers.
Follow established safety procedures and support efficient day-to-day game farm operations.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Six months of propagation experience at a breeding facility producing at least 1,000 game birds, including skilled maintenance and equipment operation.
Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in wildlife propagation, game bird husbandry, or agricultural operations.
Experience performing skilled trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, or mechanical repair.
Experience operating and maintaining agricultural or heavy equipment.
Supervisory or team leadership experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of game bird propagation, animal husbandry, and wildlife management practices.
Ability to monitor bird health and maintain appropriate environmental conditions.
Proficiency in facility maintenance, equipment repair, and preventive maintenance practices.
Ability to safely operate trucks, tractors, and other farm machinery.
Strong organizational, recordkeeping, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to supervise staff, prioritize work, and maintain operational efficiency.
Ability to follow safety procedures and work independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, and repetitive manual tasks.
Ability to lift and move equipment, feed, supplies, and birds as required.
Ability to safely operate farm equipment, power tools, and maintenance machinery.
Willingness to work shift schedules during brooding season and respond during emergencies as an essential employee.
