As an Auto Estimator, you will collect vehicle information, complete initial and supplemental estimates using automated systems or in person, and provide technical support on repair issues. You will also deliver exceptional customer service, explaining coverage and guiding insureds through the claims process.

Auto Estimator

Location: Los Angeles, CA
Work Arrangement: Remote-Field

State Farm is seeking an Auto Estimator to support customers and repair shops throughout the claims process. This position combines remote virtual estimating from home with in-person appointments at body shops and customer locations. Competitive candidates should live within commuting distance of the Los Angeles territory and may occasionally be required to work outside the assigned territory based on business needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect vehicle information from repair shops and customers and complete initial and supplemental estimates using photos or in-person inspections.

  • Use automated estimating systems to prepare accurate vehicle repair estimates.

  • Meet with insureds and explain coverage, vehicle damage, and the claims process while providing excellent customer service.

  • Provide technical support to claim handlers regarding vehicle repair issues.

  • Apply knowledge of market value and factors affecting vehicle reparability.

  • Evaluate repair bids, photo documentation, vehicle damage, and causation issues.

  • Handle inbound and outbound calls with customers and repair shops.

  • Address customer questions and concerns promptly and professionally.

  • Interact appropriately with individuals who may be upset or emotional regarding inspections or claim decisions.

Work Schedule:
Hours of operation may change based on business needs. Candidates must be flexible and willing to work varying shifts, overtime, or irregular hours when required.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in auto collision repair, auto damage estimating, and/or auto insurance appraisal.

  • Strong customer service, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks across technical platforms.

  • Demonstrated accountability, resourcefulness, and attention to detail.

  • Physical ability to stoop, bend, and perform some lifting to inspect vehicle damage and prepare estimates.

  • Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Motor Vehicle Physical Damage Appraiser License.

  • Knowledge of CCC One and/or Mitchell estimating systems.

  • I-CAR Platinum Certification.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of required training, proficiency testing, applicable licensing exams, Motor Vehicle Record checks, and background checks.

  • Candidates may be required to complete additional pre-employment assessments.

Compensation:

  • Potential starting salary: $69,398.62-$91,000 annually.

  • Starting salary is based on skills, background, and experience; the high end is generally reserved for candidates with significant relevant experience.

  • Potential annual incentive pay of up to 15% of base salary.

  • Compensation is based on a standard 38:45-hour work week.
