Role overview
Summary
This role involves professional duties in supporting the development and administration of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The analyst will utilize GIS and other software tools to create, maintain, and update map layers, develop customized maps, and perform spatial analysis and database queries.
Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in professional duties in supporting the development and administration of Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
Duties:
Utilizes GIS and other software tools to create, maintains and updates map layers in the GIS database and develops a variety of customized and special maps, shape files, graphics, tables, reports and other products.
Performs spatial analysis and database queries, developing and maintaining data layers and spatial data structures using GIS tools and relational databases.
Develops and implements queries, scripts and instructions of moderate difficulty.
Compiles and integrates data from a variety of sources and converts non-GIS data formats into usable GIS data.
Extracts and organizes data and performs quality control operations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of all data.
Routine updates to the water, sewer, and easement GIS layers.
Creation and maintenance of utility schematics via computer aided drafting software.
Reading and transcribing engineering plans, field notes, and easement plats as necessary.
Verifying water and sewer availability for the public.
Performs other work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in geography, cartography, planning, engineering or a related field; two years of experience in the use and operation of geographical information systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Working knowledge of principles, practices, concepts and techniques of Geographic Information Systems (GIS); of GIS applications, programming languages and development tools.
Skill in utilizing computer aided drafting and mapping tools and programs including AutoCAD software and ESRI-based GIS software and its applications; in utilizing a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment.
Ability to collect, interpret and integrate relevant data from multiple sources; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
