Role overview
Summary
This role involves providing emergency relief, veterinary care, and rehabilitation services to distressed wildlife. The surgeon will support mobile veterinary services, address human-wildlife conflict, and provide health support to Protected Areas, including disease diagnostics and record keeping.

Broad Responsibilities:
Work closely with the entire project team with the sole objective of providing emergency relief to animals in distress.
Support the mobile veterinary service through the use of appropriate veterinary and animal husbandry skills for stabilization and treatment of injured or distressed wildlife, and transfer of animals that require special and protracted care to a field station established in the field.
Address human-wildlife conflict in and around Protected Areas of the project location and look for appropriate placement options for the displaced animals.
Address the wildlife rehabilitation needs of the project location by attending to wildlife emergencies and release them back to the wild as per the guidelines or protocols in place for different species.
Provide wildlife health support to the PAs in project location by attending to wildlife mortalities, recording wildlife deaths and epidemics, and following appropriate disease diagnostic, control and preventive measures.
Strengthen all disease diagnostic operations with laboratory investigations by collecting, preserving and dispatching appropriate specimens, including the conduct of autopsies on all birds, reptiles and mammals that die under care.
Provide wildlife health support to the Forest Department by taking part in their translocation operations, disease investigation operations, creation of immunization belt around Protected Areas and treatment of camp elephants around the project locations.
Use appropriate restraint and handling methods without causing behavioral damage and without impairing their rehabilitation potential.
Monitor key released taxa using appropriate post release monitoring protocol.
Maintains records of all rescue operations, from admission of animal to its final disposition. This would also include maintaining records/registers of treatment, husbandry, anesthesia, surgery and laboratory investigations.
Additionally, responsible for all field level governmental and partner liaisons at appropriate levels for the project and local public relation needs, with the PI/Regional Facilitator.
Additional responsibilities will be as mentioned in the individual targets as issued by PI PH/DH.
