Role overview

Summary

Kraemer Design + Production (KD+P) is seeking a highly organized Project Manager to lead interactive projects from kickoff through installation. This role involves aligning internal teams and external partners, managing schedules and budgets, and coordinating client communication to ensure projects are completed safely, professionally, and to KD+P’s quality standards in complex, custom-built environments.

Project Manager

About the Role

KD+P is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Project Manager to lead interactive projects from kickoff through design, fabrication, delivery, installation, and project closeout. This role manages schedules, budgets, vendors, client communication, and cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to KD+P's quality standards.

The ideal candidate has experience managing custom-built environments such as museum exhibits, themed environments, architectural interiors, construction, experiential design, or commercial build-outs, and is comfortable coordinating multiple stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from kickoff through installation, closeout, and client handoff.

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, deliverables, meeting notes, and action items.

  • Coordinate design, graphics, production, fabrication, and leadership teams to meet project goals.

  • Serve as the primary contact for clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and installation partners.

  • Review project scope, drawings, fabrication documents, submittals, change orders, and installation plans.

  • Track budgets, purchase orders, vendor costs, billing milestones, and change requests.

  • Coordinate fabrication, production schedules, sample reviews, shipping logistics, and site readiness.

  • Plan and support onsite installations, including crew coordination, issue resolution, punch lists, safety awareness, and client communication.

  • Identify project risks early and communicate solutions proactively.

  • Maintain organized project documentation, approvals, field reports, photos, and closeout records.

  • Support quality control to ensure work meets design intent, durability, accessibility, safety, and visitor experience standards.

  • Represent KD+P professionally during meetings, site visits, and installations.

Installation Responsibilities

  • Prepare installation schedules, manpower plans, equipment needs, and daily priorities.

  • Coordinate with facility teams, contractors, electricians, AV integrators, fabricators, freight carriers, and subcontractors.

  • Verify site readiness, access, staging, delivery windows, and safety requirements before installation.

  • Lead or support daily installation meetings, progress tracking, issue resolution, punch lists, and final walkthroughs.

  • Resolve field issues including damaged materials, fit conflicts, sequencing challenges, and missing information while maintaining schedule and quality.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of project management experience in exhibits, construction, fabrication, architecture, interiors, themed entertainment, museums, experiential design, or similar custom-build environments.

  • Experience managing schedules, budgets, vendors, documentation, and multiple priorities.

  • Ability to interpret drawings, shop drawings, scopes of work, installation plans, and technical documentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving, organization, and decision-making abilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn project management and documentation software.

  • Ability to travel for client meetings, site visits, and installations.

  • Strong accountability, professionalism, and collaborative work style.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with exhibit installation, museum fabrication, commercial interiors, or construction management.

  • Background coordinating subcontractors, AV teams, millworkers, graphics installers, or specialty fabricators.

  • Experience with children's museums, science centers, visitor centers, or other public interactive environments.

  • Knowledge of fabrication, interactive components, graphics, lighting, AV systems, accessibility, safety, procurement, shipping, installation sequencing, and project closeout.

  • Familiarity with project management platforms, construction administration workflows, punch-list software, and cloud-based documentation.

Success in This Role

Successful Project Managers keep complex projects organized while supporting creative goals. They communicate clearly, anticipate risks, solve problems during fabrication and installation, and collaborate effectively with designers, fabricators, clients, and installers to deliver engaging, durable, safe, and accessible visitor experiences.

Work Environment

This role combines office-based project coordination, remote collaboration, site visits, and onsite installation support. Travel varies by project and may include extended installation periods requiring longer onsite hours.

Why Join KD+P

At KD+P, you'll help transform creative ideas into engaging, hands-on environments for families and communities. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to craftsmanship, creativity, education, and memorable visitor experiences.
